Hi Michael,
   You put it so much better than me in talking about
the effects of mantras.
   It reminds me of a 're-write' of the Gospel of
John I read about a hundred thousand years ago:
"In the Beginning was the vibration....." Although
I'm not a Christian, I found that substitution of
'vibration' for 'word' very meaningful (you mentioned
the effect sound has on matter).
I never had a negative effect using mantras, either
but I always feel duty bound to warn people because I
know of sincere practitioners who really went bonkers
experimenting on their own. Like the time I experienced
'Zen madness' which was probably Kundalini gone bad, when
I first started out, because I didn't know a person
is supposed to go s-l-o-w-l-y, especially since I didn't
have a teacher.
However....I would be very interested, too, in knowing
of people out there on the K. List who use a different
mantra
for each chakra and what their experience has been.
