And courage and compassion too! It takes courage to speak truth to ears you
know would rather receive sugar coating. It takes compassion to understand
that the discomfort is temporary and the truth will make the hearer stronger.
I see it as akin to pulling out a splinter: you know the process will cause
your friend pain but you also know that afterwards they will be better.

Indeed! What's wrong with being uncomfortable? The moment of opportunity is
often "uncomfortable." If we wait for comfort we have probably waited too
long and the medicine of truth will have lost its potency.

Of course, and there's the rub. The right motivation will provide the courage
to hold open the space for truth.
