Wow. Thanks for your reply. I really got that you heard and
interacted -- responded -- with what I wanted to communicate.
You were so personal and vulnerably authentic (all ingredient
for real love by the way!) that I am moved with affinity and
compassion.
Yes. Love is not a concept. Not only a feeling. Not only nice
intentions. Not a creed to subscribe to. Not a code to which to
adhere. Not a duty to get handled. Not something contained by
"mind." So, yes, maybe what I wrote is an example of my mind
trying to "figure out" love. But rather than embracing something
out of the capacity of mind, I do want to communicate -- to
transpersonalize? to transmute? to conduct (as a conduit)? love,
not as a mind thing, but as a personal intimate relationship.
And by "person" I do not mean human being -- I mean the person
of God -- knowing God as a person. Not a person just like me or
that I am god, but to point ( yes, with my mind and these mere
words) to love experientially known, not with the mind, but know
in the context of being - to - being relationship.
This knowing of which I point is not knowing about. It is not
knowing facts or information but knowing through our entire
being however we conceive of "entire being". This "knowing" is a
certainty. Not a mind certainty like something of which you have
convinced yourself and others agree upon life 2 plus 2 equals 4.
But knowing like the Hebrew word to know which is to have
intimate exchange. To know God intimately like a wife could be
said to know her husband in the moment of sexual intercourse. To
get what I mean by "know" is to understand the fulness of the
Hebrew word translated into english as "know" which goes way
beyond a mind thing.
Yes, this love is not something for the mind to grasp and get
"handled". But nor is it merely and energetic exchange either.
There is still something more. It is more than a physical object
of course: a rose can be an expression of love, but it in and of
itself is not love. A rose could be (to the way I am speaking of
it) a "conduit" of love in that it is used to convey love.
But I assert that with these mystical experiences, we tend to
try to make energies into objects as well. I am saying that even
these energetic "things" are closer perhaps to love, but still
are not love and that if the best you can do is see and absorb
energetic "things" of love energy then you are still in the
shallow end of the pool. Not that you're bad; just that there is
SO much more possible. I simply do not want the conduit of love,
be that a rose, a beam of light-- whatever to be confused with
love itself because I assert that love is the person of God who
is the source of all those expressions. I am concerned what we
will love the EXPRESSION of love, mistaking it for the fullness
of love, and never move on to the fullest enjoyment of the
lover. We might explore and enjoy the love letter, but not move
beyond that _expression_ of love to partake of the lover whose
wrote those letters. In this analogy, the lights and energies
are the expression -- the letter. Just press on to the source:
the lover behind the love. That's the core I what I really want
myself and am trying to use these words to convey a simply
glimpse of.
This is, of course, something words and metaphors fall short of
when compared to the face-to-face experience. Words of love are
not love, and you're right that words alone will, finally, still
leave us hungry. Only love is love. I simply assert that love is
a person and that person is God. The details are a mystery which
allows for a degree of flexibility in the expression of this
relationship. But finally, only knowing love without distortion
is possible only inasmuch as we know God and enjoy intimacy with
God. I surely have way more to go in that, but that's what
eternity if for :)
