I went to a lecture about Ganzfeld and telepathy given by the
experiment's designer (now dead); the researchers were at Edinburgh
University, I think, studying remote viewing and telepathy - or trying
to.
Volunteers in one room were sensory-deprived (hence the Ganzfeld - they
had half-ping-pong balls over their eyes, and wore headphones producing
white noise, I think) while one of four video clips played in another
room. Then, they were shown the four video clips and asked to pick the
one which had been shown. The results were better than would be expected
by chance.
However, despite the claims of the experimenters, the experiment did not
allow sufficiently for leakage. In particular, some of the experimenters
who had seen the video clip playing were the same ones who were asking
the volunteers to pick which one had played.
When the results were later re-analysed removing the results obtained by
these experimenters, the results no longer differed significantly from
chance.
