Maybe I mentioned this before - I believe the sex energy is made out of
kundalini (as are all other "energies" and "things" "within" and "outside" of
the body) so the sexual drive can't really destroy the ability for kundalini
to rise - it just stays stuck in the lower chakras until it's led upwards -
and once it's truly awake this seems to happen by itself. The magnetic pull
between Shiva and Shakti, spirit and matter.
The traditional view in India and China (the two cultures that have arguably
provided the most material and experience regarding kundalini and
spirituality) has been to advocate absolute celibacy, since it's been assumed
that enjoying sex would make it impossible for the aspirant to reach the
highest spiritual pinnacles. There are I believe, several reasons for this,
mainly : a.) If the mind of the spiritual candidate was diverted towards sex
( in traditional cultures, this also meant steady relationships and all the
responsibilties that go along...) it bound him/her down towards
matter/body-consciousness and left little room & energy & focus for the
spiritual discipline b.) It was thought that the karma involved in having
sexual relationships would prevent speedy liberation from the wheel of
rebirth, since the earth/matter/body-tainted relationships would always pull
the candidate back c.) the experience of the kundalini masters, which taught
that the kundalini used and needed sexual energy as a kind of propellant or
additional fuel for its journey towards the brain and the top chakras.
I honestly believe there might be some truth in all of this, but my personal
experience has also shown me that it is possible to have an active kundalini
going all the way to the top at times and to have sex too. Who knows what the
experience might be like with a few years of absolute celibacy though -
problem is that most people (me included) can't or don't really want to find
out.
It really might be true however that we're living in a period in time where
spiritual growth is accelerated and where many spiritually "impure" and
undisciplined people (me included) have experiences come naturally and
sponaneously that in older times had to be worked at with great perseverance
and discipline. If one believes in the concept of reincarnation, an elegant
explanation would of course be that we've done some of the discipline in
previous lifetimes on earth and are now just reaping the fruits while still
having to deal and contend with some residual cravings. ( oh Lord won't you
buy me a Mercedes-Benz...)
The important thing seems to be not to indulge and not to be so extremely
focussed on the sexual side of life.
And of course many people just parrot whatever they've read in some book or
heard some "spiritual master" proclaim - not to mention the influence of
guilt and control trips of organized religions, conditioned education etc.
etc.
