I have read that actually all sperm are not
attempting to fertilize the egg but rather
that there seems to be teams of sperm and
some are attempting to block others. Even so
many sperm make it to the egg. It is not the
first one to get there that "wins". The egg
actively CHOOSES which sperm it will unite with
out of many.
