DEAR TONY: This is in response to your mail to me yesterday asking the
identity of my swami (l assume you were referring to the one l worked with a
few yrs ago). l'm answering you on the list because for some
reason l'm not able to retrieve your mail today to get your email address.
His name was Swami
Chetanananda----a former student of Rudrananda of the Nityananda and
Muktananda lineage. l had a wonderful relationship with Swami in the year l
worked with him and loved him very much. l thought he was helping me until l
became so violently ill after the last retreat, at which time l had bad
vertigo, hi blood pressure and pulse, vomiting and inability to eat for
months causing a huge weight loss and changes in my stomach that persist
today. When l wrote to him then of my problems he conveyed a message for me
to work it out on my own, which is what l have done over the past 3-1/2 yrs.
You raise an interesting question as to what is the meaning of my
reaction as l've described it. lt's been hard for me to see this as a
positive development, but perhaps this intense reaction was in some way part
of the necessary purification process that can be involved with k. Perhaps
the very unpleasant reactions that l've had when exposed to some teachers
represent an acceleration of the process...l don't know. Given their
physically debilitating nature, l guess it makes me a proponent of the more
gradual approach. jerry
