Hi k-ites,
I too have been going through some free-flowing anxiety and fear stuff
Angelique and others have been so eloquantley discussing. I too worry about
paradise or armaggedon from time to time....and I can barely stand to watch
TV now...in fact I can't...unless it is positive....I am so sensitive right
now my skin almost feels sunburned (metaphorically speaking :)
But here's a little positive note folks....maybe we are heading in the right
direction.....
Yesterday in Canada's capital, Ottawa, on Parliament Hill, the seat of our
government, that I just happen to live fairly close to...there was a protest...
You see our Supreme court has ruled that "family" means alot more than just
"man and woman with kids"...and gay couples will now receive spousal benefits.
So what happens?
Up from the good 'ol US of A, our extremely judgmental and hypocritical
neighbors to the South (I am speaking generally, I have many lovely American
friends) comes a band of Baptists.
Thay stand on Parliament Hill, with our flag held upside down, with their
placards reading "God hates Fags", spewing their hatred like spitfire from
their gaping dark mouths, their faces an angry apple-red...(descriptive eh?
:) They sing a Nazi-inspired version of our national anthem, most likely
thinking all the while.."hey, hey, hey, that'll really piss off all these
stupid canucks...."
Thay call us a fag-loving country and our flag a "fag flag."
Then, as the cameras roll, they burn our flag right on our Parliament Hill
and yell and scream their vile curses as they do so.
(Now remember, in the good old non-paranoid US of A they would be arrested
on the spot, throngs would be hurtling rocks, trying to stone then for
defacing the flag so many fought and died for.)
So what happens? A peaceful group of about 20 counter-protesters sings a
quite rendition of our anthemn the way it should be sung, holding a few
signs of their own saying...you know...God loves everybody.
Other than that?
Nothing.
No one paid attention.
The men, women, and YES, children from Baptist-ville USA packed up theit
things in relative silence (is that a look of bewilderment and confusion on
their faces??) and headed back home to hate central.
WE IGNORED THEM!!!! :)))))
Most Canadians...(who know we are not a piece of clothe and just words to an
anthem....
but a nation slowly becoming more and more tolerant and linked together
despite our "lifestyle" or "cultural" differences)......most Canadians just
don't have time for that kind of ignorance anymore...
YEAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
