Dear El,
Nice post and I would also like to mention that the ability to detach,
which psychologists call "disasociation" can be a defense function as well
as a spiritual practise. It can be mal adaptive, as in multiple personality
disorder and adaptive as in being able to leave stressful situations. I
agree with you that if I could do it for pain, I would also not be here at
all, as I too have chronic pain:-)
I have done it often to help with acting in the theatre. I had stage
fright really bad and I found out that I could detach from my fear and
basicaly watch myself act out the scenes, becoming the person on the stage.
So I know what you are talking about Colette and how it feels but I would be
in happy land to be able to get away from pain that way!! An envious skill.
Much love, Julie
