I would believe that this is somewhat similar to Reiki healings. Reiki
energy goes into the healer's body through crown cakra and then goes out
from hir/her palm cakras (which are normally put on the patient body). They
also believe that the color of the Reiki energy is purple, i.e dark purple
for beginner and light purple for advanced. Reiki healings can also be done
from distance and one of the methods used is similar with what alan is
doing.

While other people need to be attuned by a Reiki Master to enable them
channel the Reiki energy, I guess you both have got the blessings by being
attuned directly by your spiritual Guru.
