Dear Karin and Julie,
[Those of you who have already heard most of my story please ignore]
I think that breath control and the Bandha exercises may be part of the key,
for me too. Just before my energy waves started in Sept '96, I felt I needed
exercise. Since I had learned HY from TV (Lilias Yoga and You) back in the
70's, I decided to get back into it. She emphasized breathing with the
asanas.
At the same time, I ran into an old book in a local library book sale called
*How to Keep Slender and Fit after Thirty* by Bonnie Prudden. In it was a
chapter called "sexercise" which described an exercise which we would today
call Kegal exercise. (The contracting of the interior muscles of the
vagina.) It is also similar to the Mula Bandha exercise, I think.
And at the same time I was having some house remodeling done. (Please don't
laugh! ) One of the contractors was "new age" and kept playing Rumi tapes.
We got into long conversations...
And also at the same time, I was having difficulty sleeping so was taking
Melatonin.
So there you have it. Asanas + Pranayama + Bandhas ? + falling in love +
Melatonin
I have never meditated, nor have I ever been religious--but feel all
religions have a basis in this energy.
I still don't know whether hatha yoga caused the K which in turn caused me to
be so vulnerable to falling in love or whether falling in love triggered
Kundalini! I haven't fallen out of love with my husband of 35 years, thank
heavens! But the arrows hit me pretty deeply, and, as happens to many of us,
my priorities radically changed. (The contractor and I have remained good
friends, by the way :) )
Ever since, I have received occasional "understandings" from voices from who
knows where, experience frequent zaps up the spine during the day and wake up
3-4 times virtually every night with vibrational energy orgasmic bliss-brain
explosions. Judging from other's experiences, though, mine have been
relatively "down to earth," aside from the "voices." But I feel compelled to
do 20 min of HY 3 times a day to calm my system down.
I suspect the bandhas with pranayama are a pretty volatile combination!
Love, Hillary
