I believe that the universe is a very benevolent place, and there are omnipotent forces which are guiding me all the time to learn the lessons I want to learn in this my latest life. Therefore I look on all my experiences, for good or ill, as part of a plan to help me. So if I am robbed, mugged, dropped by a partner, or made redundant from my job, I choose to try and look for the reasons why the universe wants me to experience such events, and what I can learn from them. Here are just some examples:
* I was made redundant in August 1998. Nine months later I have my own company, far greater earning potential, and the freedom to set my own terms of doing business. I have also had a chance to review my priorities in life, and have changed many of my choices as a result.
* A couple of years ago my car window was broken and a sports bag stolen from the boot (British for trunk, I believe). I asked a garage to repair the window and also look at why there was sometimes smoke coming out of the bonnet (British for hood, I think). They reported back to me that the smoke came from oil dripping onto the engine, and there was every chance that the car would have caught fire if they had not stopped the leak. I was grateful for the break-in. It may have saved my life.
* I put my home on the market last year. The first person to view it was Sarah, a woman for whom, some time back, I had had a totally unrequited passion for around six years. Seeing her again provoked the sort of feelings which I had not felt for ages, and helped me a great deal to realise that it was high time I found a partner. Oh, and the estate agent who showed her round was, by coincidence, one of her childhood friends.
Coincidences used to spook me, but now I always look on the bright side. Hey, I was robbed of £10 at an underground (subway) station on Monday, and all I'm wondering is why it was a help to me.
