With an (almost) empty head for nearly thirty years, it's impossible to
think it could be otherwise. But before that there was a little practice of
walking meditation. Repeating a mantra, consisting of 6... 12 syllables,
mentally pronouncing one syllable per step, the entire mantra taking one
'breathing in' (also one 'breathing out'), with variations regarding
breath-retention, was most useful to silence the mind. It could be observed
that the mantra started a 'life of its own', being transformed into a kind
of loop. The exercise could be called 'yogic power walking'; it has grown
into a healthy habit but the mantras are left out since a long time :)
