I am in awe of the love that flows here in response to Rick's death. Some of
you have contacted me directly, and I thank you all for your support and for
sharing some really personal interactions you had with him. The funeral is
Tuesday in Saginaw, MI. I am sorry I do not know the time. Rick is really
just a nickname he gave himself. He is Latvian, and his given name is
Guntis. His parents fled Latvia because of Hitlers regime. Rick was born in
the United States (Michigan - a place he would never consider leaving). I
will respond to the many personal posts sent directly to me when I return.
His family has opened there arms to me, and I am grateful to be a part of
this celebration of his life. Afterwards, we will go up to Rogers City and
go through his personal belongings. This will give me a chance to assess his
son's psychological state. I am concerned that he has shut down. The whole
family, who have wanted to meet me much earlier are telling me that I am a
part of the family. They are so loving toward me. Even his ex-wife has told
me that she is so happy that he had me before he died. I received email from
the State of Michigan in Presque County where Rick worked for 25 years as a
social woker. I was shocked when I found email from top administrators
trying to locate me. They told me that he changed from being terribly
depressed to being happy and energetic. They are all coming to
Saginaw...every one of them, and driving back the same day. These strangers
have invited to stay in their homes when I am up in Rogers City. Amazing how
the love starts flowing and keeps on going. I have printed out all the posts
to share with his family. I think it will open their eyes a great deal.
They have had some difficulty acceping his being a Buddhist. I believe they
will be happy to see how many beautiful people love him here. I will return
next weekend and share the wealth with you. Day by day, the riches come
pouring in.
