I catch myself doing this frequently. I catch myself because I start to
feel anxious, and so I imaging a STOP! sign in my head and it stops it.

Someone probably already said that it might be interesting to examine what
the scenario is that is playing out. Most often mine have to do with fear
and I just end it with the stop sign.
