Right on! I have to agree here that I don't think that the ego is "bad".
 The ego is a tool. If we learn what it is about and how to use it, it
is to our advantage. Especially considering that we are humans here,
intentionally experiencing a very focused reality, the ego being the
filter, in one sense of the word. There is much to be gleamed from this
life experience complete with all its limitation and suffering.

Indeed it is useful to know where your thoughts are coming from. For me
it is hard to explain how I know its my "highter self" or a more
universal knowing. I just know usually. Especially when time reveals
the Truth in the words. There is also a certain tone, vibration
characterizing my highter knowing. It is subtle. Even though I know it
is that voice, a lot of times I don't really acknowledge it until after
the fact. Tis life.
