In my opinion the ego is not all bad and the higher self is not necessarily
all good (or I should try to clarify - meaning it is all good: but doesn't
consist of only "Good" - again words get in the way) - we have egos whether
we like it or not - we also have that "devilish" part of us and the "angel"
part of us - one can not transcend anyplace without making friends with the
devil in your self. Merge the devil and the angel into an impish harlequin -
the answer is they are both you, in you and in the universe -
-Make friends with the darker side of you - night follows daylight - one is
not better than the other - by making a friend of that side of you a certain
layer of illusion will fade away and you will always smile at yourself and
the multiple layers of reality that we create - feel the universe in and
through you - understand your conditioning - part of this is appreciating
what is from you and what is from others and culture - the metaphorical
forest or wilderness you must visit; and strip away layers and layers of
conditioning till your self emerges - bright and shiny -
Peace and imbalance (to create balance - create imbalance - then one can see
the balance point - or the lesson of the teeter-totter)
