Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone hurts themselves or others with
destructive behaviors. There is nobody without blemish, nobody any better or
worse than anyone else, although society is "divided" into classes so that
those who are already rich, powerful and without conscience can exploit
weaker people by assuming authority to exploit and control them.

The key is conscience, willingness to change, willingness to be sorry for
one's shortcomings and to turn back to make amends. That's the key to
understanding blemishes and, ultimately, dealing with them.

There is not a single person walking the face of the earth, normal,
semi-normal, cooperative, resistant, hostile, compliant, whatever, who
hasn't messed up a relationship, a job, an opportunity. Many have just been
so misdirected by social values that make no sense to them that they are too
confounded and confused to even discover their own true selves. So they get
labeled mentally ill and abused by a system that chews them up for profit
and power. Their spiritual crises are aborted with drugs and force and
contempt and scorn of those in power, who benefit from keeping them
intimidated and confused.

And what is the key to liberation from this grotesque cycle of exploiation
and systemic abuse?

Conscience. Courage to reassess and re-evaluate values. Ability to forgive
and let go of grudges and go forward in newness of life with hopes of
avoiding old mistakes and improving. In other words, faith, hope and love.

Many people do accomplish this going forward. Usually, it takes putting
trust in a Higher Power...as in Alcoholics Anonymous, which actually works
well for many people. For me, the key is trusting God through Jesus Christ.

Hope this helps.

Sue
