Subject: [K-list] On the necessity of "I"
From: Lew Jones
On 1999/01/20 17:18, Lew Jones posted thus to the K-list:
It seems to me that the "I" is necessary in everybody's name or at least
in their soul. As Ortega y Gasset stated: 'I am I and my circumstance;
unless I save it I cannot save myself'. And yes the various "I"s in the
preceding sentence have different meanings. Whether one speaks of dualism,
non-dualism or qualified non-dualism - it seems always necessary to remember
that we are physical I(s) and that total non-dualism leads nowhere. It
would seem to me that it is finding your own path through the forest that is
necessary, and although one can be trapped in one's I-ness it is also
possible to be trapped by ignoring the need to do exactly as Ortega stated.
We cannot forget the I for it is what makes us human.
It is necessary to know the context and structure before attaching meaning.
And this context driven nature forces the "I" to discover itself through
others - perhaps this is a function of the list - All of life is an
interpretation of an interpretation...... at least that is what an 'I' has
been telling myself for 25 years.
