If a thing happens three times, it means the Universe is trying to tell me
something. It might not work that way for others, but it always does for
me. The first three times are like little "heads-up" events; if there is a
fourth time, it's going to come in the form of a whack on the head that
resembles the proverbial two-by-four. Ouch.

Vendetta? Where did El see vendetta in my post? I plead flamin' GUILTY to
mother-henning. That's one of my vices. Yes, I am guilty of worrying
about vulnerable souls being mugged in dark astral side streets, but for
pitys sake, vendetta? I'm incapable of it. Even when I get angry (which
is less often than in my youth, perhaps one of the benefits of aging), it's
gone in a flash. I've never been able to hold anger long enough to conduct
a full-fledged vendetta. However, I do learn to avoid certain alley-ways
in the wee hours of the morning. That's not a vendetta. That's using my
earthly common sense.
These are two instances. Another occurred a few weeks ago; the first
little voicemail from the Universe. I nearly left the list after that one;
I understood the message, yet I failed to act on it.
Imagine the following conversation:
"Please pass the peas," she murmured. "What on earth do you want a pick
axe for?" someone asked, punctuated by audible gasps and dropped forks.
I feel like someone who has suddenly found herself speaking a language that
no one can understand--except me. It's the language I've loved and spoken
(and written) all my life, yet here, lately, it's met with astonishing
interpretations that have nothing to do with my meaning or intent. It's as
though I'm a stranger in a strange land--here, where I once felt so at home.
I am out of sync, no longer on the same wave-length--completely, I suspect,
out of the loop. Maybe the Universe, that wise and patient teacher, has
been trying to gently nudge me out of my comfortable niche here on the
k-list. Too much time spent reading the posts, perhaps, or it could be too
much reliance on the support I've found here, at least until now. It took
the third letter, from El, the latest Universal Messenger, to make me fully
understand. I've overstayed my welcome, and my gracious hosts are weary of
disguising their yawns with nervous laughs.
So, with hat in hand, and (electronic) bags packed and waiting by the
(electronic) door, I make my apologies and my farewells. But please know:
this is only "goodbye, I'm sorry for all the misunderstanding, and thank
you." It's not a conspiracy or a jihad. I mean nothing more than "bye,
all, you've been wonderful, every one of you." Let me add: my next stop
will be our--no, your beautiful new web page to unsubscribe myself, so if
you have any replies, please send them to me, not to the list. And once
more, thank you all: you've given me more than you can ever imagine.
