this is beautiful. the poet paints that gaping maw between Truth and
Understandment in an eloquent convolving light of deep yearning. the poet
knows that every one of us is there, spinning in that light, one breath away
from collapsing into the maw and rejoining that from which we were never
separated.

Freda,
Gee! An unsolicited testimonial. :-) That's neat! Thanks for letting me
know.
BTW, I have another screen saver I might be putting online before too
long...it's 7 chakra-colored 3-dimensional stars that start rotating and
play a tone from a
Debussy-like whole tone scale when struck with pleasant-sounding random
music as the result. It was just for fun...but I have a notion that it may
stimulate the chakras. At least mine buzz a bit when I watch it. :-)
This could start a whole new thing: screensaver therapy.
Love,
Sharon

Great metaphor, because I think chaos theory would say that it is
increased energy that generates the turbulence that generates the
whirlpool. And I think this happens over and over on the spiritual
path. Just now I'm most interested in the state just before the
whirlpool gets formed again -- learning how to live with the
turbulence, not dam it up prematurely, or dissipate the energy (k).
And then of course each time the whole wet mess can tolerate more
energy so the turbulence gets more turbulent. Whew! Holly

Dear Klist,
Sorry this is off topic but I wanted to share it with you anyway.
Anytime I can have a *good excuse* for just sittin' and starring at my
screen - I'll take it.
Reciently, Sharron Webb posted the address to download her screensaver.
I was curious and set ut up,
I watched it for just a few minutes on my screen
and noticed that My eyes felt better [I should wear my glasses but they
are a burden]
I had, a few months back, read about eye exercises to strenthen eyesight
that was supposed to be able to correct vision problems.
Watching Sharron Webbs screensaver remided me of this.
I have been taking a few minutes every hour or so to "roll my eyes" with
the fractal//ying/yang dohickey.
I am not squinting and my eyes are not feeling "tight"
I am impressed.
And you thought it was JUST a cool screensaver!!!
Thanks!

Certainly a powerful weekend for me. First the New Mantra in the hot tub last
night, then the movie Resurrection this afternoon. That is my all-time
favorite movie, with Ellen Bursten, a true story of a lady in Kansas, Edna Mae
McCauley, who died in a car crash, and returned. She discovered that she had
a tremendous healing power. Her only claim for the power was LOVE. She
didn't do any exercises nor did she meditate. She died and found LOVE.
This one story has been my inspiration through many years of searching, then I
am reminded today that it's really simple. LOVE. So hard to do, yet so easy
to do.
Leona.

Thanks for your comments. I think randomly during the day is more effective
than any disciplined fashion. I'll try asking that way. Who doesn't need

Jerry writes: The passage just needed some editing. It sounds as though
Gopiji is saying the brilliant galaxy should be required to gain
transcendence. Edited, the passage might read:
The only cure now for the current ills
Is the brilliant galaxy which fills,
The chairs of power should be required to gain
Transcendence with attunement of the brain.
Now it makes sense. In my edited version the brilliant galaxy just
"fills" (implied is that it fills "all.") In the unedited version the
brilliant galaxy fills the chairs of power and also should be required
to gain transcendence. That doesn't make sense. Why should the brilliant
galaxy (shakti) be required to gain transcendence? Maybe in some other
context it should, but not within the context of the rest of Gopi
Krishna's poetry.
So one interpretation is that the way to harmony is the proper
harnessing of the force of that brilliant galaxy. The populace should
require world leaders to appropriately attend to Shakti. All
interpretations are in the ballpark, I guess.

Hello !
If you got it the hottub, it would work fine and in a powerful as you say.
About a year ago I was having a hot shower and the following mantra or words
dawned on my consciousness.
Ananda Rupam Shiva Swarupam, Maya Bhedam Matoro Namami.
which is in Sanskrit and transliterated it means:
What is my form -it is bliss.
What is my nature- Its Shiva
Maya Bhedam- Shattering the veil of illusions and delusions
Matoro Namami- Oh! Divine Mother in All, I bow to thee.
It was spontaneous and very uplifting. There was no prior thought involved, but I
could see the words in sanskrit , as I had my eyes closed during the time. When I
repeated it I also found a sublime rhythm in the words. I danced and swayed in a
spirit of bliss and when I finished, the hot water tank was empty and the cold
blast brought me back to my worldly senses. I am sure, many people do have such
realizations or experiences and have the opportunity to taste their blissful
states of consciousness. Thanks for your sharing Leona, which also inspired me to
share. Normally I do not beat my drums, unless the inspiration directs me to.

practices while doing asanas-- ie breathing in and out through nostrils but in
tune with body positions.

A Zen master said: imagine you
are walking along a beach, and you can see your footsteps behind, and
you can look ahead and imagine them there after you have traversed that
place - but you cannot see your present footsteps. Ego thinks it
knows who walks, but the walking is not the thought of the walking, the
one walking is not the thought of the one walking - ego-self is in
error.
Dogen Zen-ji said, "Seeing forms with the whole body and mind,
hearing sounds with the whole body and mind, one understands them
intimately." This means 'not separately' or egologically. "To study
the Buddha Way is to study the self. To study the self is to forget
the self'. That is, to BE it completely so that we don't have anything
left over - then this matter of egolessness becomes clear. Then there
is something that has always been there that will support you - your
true identity.

Instructions to booksellers . . .
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the
self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the
purpose.

(Jan) "boredom means being conscious of unfulfilled expectations
without knowing their content."
Human beings are programmed to enter a state of boredom/anxiety after
being at rest for a period of time without sleeping. Otherwise we'd
never search for food before we got hungry, make culture or decide we
ought to become enlightened! Holly

lob,
how do these words find blind spots and remove veils that i didn't know i
had. wolves are as necessary as shepherds. without wolves the sheep wander
aimless, shepherdless. the wolf attacks and devours the careless ones and
they are born anew, with new hope, new direction. yet the shepherds have no
love of wolves.
i am a carnivore. life feeds on life. ideas feed on ideas. can i come out
of prison with even this on my conscience? can the community of the spirit
accept even a wolf, having bitten so many?

Harsha: Enlightenment certainly does appear to have different meanings for
different people (and in different traditions and philosophies). In the
context of Advaita Vedanta, the more precise term "Self-Realization" is used.
I prefer to use the term Self-Recognition. The best known modern exponent of
the philosophy of Advaita Vedanta is Ramana Maharishi, the Sage of Arunachala.
He went to the sacred hill when he was 17 and stayed there for more than half
a century. He answered questions on Vedanta and
Self-Realization and other philosophical systems from all comers. The
philosophy of Advaita Vedanta is given practical application through Self-
Enquiry (Atma Vichara), meditation and various forms of Yoga including
Kundalini Yoga. Sri Ramana emphasized the system of Self-Enquiry and Self-
Awareness while expressing support for the techniques of meditation and yoga
and simple breath awareness (pranayama). On this path the term Enlightenment
denotes Non-dual and Absolute Consciousness which is Recognized with Perfect
Clarity in Kevala Nirvikalpa Samadhi when mind has subsided into the Self.
Here Self Sees IT Self by It Self and Through It Self (without any hindering
medium). This is also called the state of Sat-Chit- Ananda. Beyond that
there is Sahaj Samadhi only, which describes the realization of the Sage for
whom Non-dual consciousness has become natural and Divine communion is
continuous (unbroken by any other state of consciousness including deep sleep,
dream sleep or Superconscious states of any type).
