Flute....
I haven't studied eclipses in-depth, but have found a book with some
interesting thoughts about it. It's called "The Astrology of Self-Discovery" by Tracy Marks. I will be quoting from the book, so for
those of you not interested in astrology/eclipses and how this may affect your chart, go ahead & delete now.
*************************
"Both solar & lunar eclipses involve a blockage of the light transmitted by the Sun or the Moon to the earth, and may influence us by actually
blocking the 'light of consciousness' and forcing us to deal more deeply than usual with subconscious as well as collective forces. Eclipses are
generally considered to be Uranian in nature because of the unexpected events that often accompany them. Under their influence, Pandora's box
may be opened; whatever emotional and psychic facets of ourselves we have ignored may explode into consciousness and demand our attention --
whether directly through confrontation with our own internal demons and angels, or indirectly in projected form, through our confrontation with
other people and external realities.
Frequently, we experience a 'wipeout' in the house in which an eclipse occurs within our charts -- a time of finishing up, ending, cleaning
house, losing or ridding ourselves of past attitudes, behaviours, activities or people who have been important to us. A crisis may occur
which demands our full attention. Althought difficult, a powerful eclipse influence upon our charts may liberate us by compelling us to let
go of whatever is keeping us mired in the past, so that we may more freely embrace the future unfolding within us. At such a time, flashes
of insight and unexpected opportunities entering our lives may awaken us to new possibilities.
Lunar eclipses more directly influence our emotions and the irrational
forces within us; we may hold on to a particular facet of ourselves or our experience during this time, as if operating from an afflicted Moon,
clinging to a form of sustenance or security which eludes us. Solar eclipses tend to affect our vitality, either depleting or intensifying
our supply of energy in regard to the sign or house being activated. Because the Sun, the 'light of consciousness,' is extinguished, our
awareness may be clouded and incomplete; we may not view our lives from a clear or objective perspective or be able to make wise decisions.
Eclipses in fire signs usually provide challenges pertaining to our
emotional & physical energy, as well as our activities; in earth signs, our material & physical existence; in air signs, the mental, interactive
& communication-oriented realms of our lives; and in water signs, our feelings, particularly as related to sources of emotional nourishment and
security. The sign of the eclipse, as well as the planets aspecting the degree of the eclipse (especially conjunctions, squares and oppositions
within 5 degrees) in the eclipse chart, will influence the nature of the eclipse. Its placement in our charts and the aspects it makes to our
planets will, of course, affect how we experience it.
My own experience (this is the author still writing), attests that the primary time of influence is the month preceding the eclipse, and that if
the eclipse conjuncts or closely (within 2 degrees) squares or opposes a natal planet, we experience an undercurrent of its influence until the
next eclipse cycle. During this time, whenever a transiting planet (especially Mars or an outer planet) conjuncts the eclipse degree, the
eclipse is re-activated.
How can we prepare ourselves for an eclipse, particularly one conjunct a natal planet? First of all, we can orient ourselves toward 'cleaning up'
the areas of our experience which will be influenced. We can plan to finish what needs to be finished here, whether concretely experiencing an
ending, or simply being open to giving up attitudes or habits which no longer contribute to our well-being. Certainly, before a lunar eclipse,
we may want to create more time and space for ourselves so that we can effectively deal with our internal process. Usually, however, we will
gain more from grounding activities than activities of inner expansion (such as meditation), because our psyches may be emotionally overloaded
and may find any additional opening experiences to be counterproductive. Whether solar or lunar, an eclipse aspecting our charts if likely to
compel us to deal with unexpected situations; the best preparation, therefore, is to create space for ourselves which will enable us to
confront the unexpected without wreaking unnecessary havoc upon a too rigid or overcrowded schedule.
Doris Hebel, who has led many excellent workshops on eclipses, suggests
that we fast on the day of an eclipse, that the week of a solar eclipse we eat citrus foods or other foods grown in the sun in order to increase
our 'solar energy', and that the week of a lunar eclipse we eat root vegetables or foods which are grown beneath the earth in order to
increase our 'lunar energy.' "
"The new moon is a time of being and action; the full moon is a time for reflection and relationship. "
***********************
Flute... the book also suggests some questions when the New Moon is conjuncting certain planets.
For New Moon conjunct Mercury, ask yourself.... What do I need to
communicate here? What knowledge might I gain? What thinking do I need to do about this realm of my experience? How might I satisfy my needs
for variety and interaction here?
For New Moon conjunct Jupiter, ask yourself..... How might I expand my understanding or social contacts? How might I enrich my life and
increase my confidence and sense of wellbeing? What do I wish to give here? What beliefs and philosophies influence my functioning? What are
my future goals in regard to this area of my life?
For New Moon conjunct Sun, ask yourself.... How might I more fully be who I am? How might I fully experience myself as the center or director of
my life? What might I do to increase my confidence in myself? In what ways might I 'shine'? (Women: How might I be the center of my world,
even in relation to men, rather than revolve around a man or allow him to express the male principle for me?)
Hope this helps.

I think Yogananda had a great quip about meditation, to paraphrase:
"Meditation should enhance your life. If not, then why do it"?

Only you could know the answer. Why not ask yourself?

Dear Joe,
I am not familiar with this situation and find it confusing. (And many people have called me selfish.) Perhaps your reasons for meditating are
rested on a premise incompatible with the desires of your soul or body. If I was to say to myself,
'I want to meditate to learn to disappear and amaze the world with my
astounding feats'. This would probably be the ego using meditation to further its own ends and would tend to counteract any benefit of
meditation.
Of course, it could also be the mission of my soul to display the power of the unseen over the seen. But I would tend to think that once the
spectacle was accomplished, I would take no personal responsibility for it as one of the longer lasting effects of deep meditation is its
merging of the self with the universe.
This point raises another issue often ignored by many learned masters. The ego exist as a separate entity with a worthy mission to keep your
body alive. If it was not successful in some way, you would not be reading this now. To talk about destroying or vanquishing your ego is
as just as painful in a real way as any enslavement of a resisting peoples. That he fights back is no surprise.
Better to talk to your ego (he is the one that prattles on in your head)
and thank him for the wonderful job he has accomplished to date. Advise him that he is no longer alone and welcome him to accompany you on your
continued magnificentjourney of self-discovery.
His services will be useful and necessary as long as you are in this body. Advise him that he will no longer be asked to carry out
inappropriate tasks as was possible done in the past and that his memories will continue forever.
I believe that this is a much better approach and I highly recommend it.
love from all of us,
joe

Perhaps to find out why it does not enhance your life. There are different forms of meditation and different things happen during this
process. My experience is that those who feel they have no need of something
quite often could gain from it, when their "no need" is not about trancending but "not liking".
People take the course of least resistence and wonder why nothing much
happens. Others battle against every obstacle. Neither approach is balanced.

One that comes to mind is "THE PIANO" - the ending when the piano pulls
her under the water and her "will" allows her to live. I can also think of some Chinese Movies I have seen on this very theme...
but cannot remember the title about the young woman who feels slighted by the old guard=type who heads the local cell. He ruled that someone who
made her husband sterile by attacking him was not guilty...and she goes to the extreme point of complaining right to the top...and destroys the old
man and I guess symbollically detroys the old system. Her will was intrepid. Does anyone remember the name of this? Maybe only Honolulu gets
these classic Chinese movies... and then there is the Joy Luck Club which was a triumph of women.... and Antonia's Line... The Horseman on the Roof?
It seems from thinking about it that most of the movies with powerful women figures are foreign - i.e. Not American... hmm. Is that news?

Hi Sorry to visit this issue again with regard to the dialogue of Lobster and Angelique.. >>> To help another as best one can to fulfill a safe,
loving and deeply > cherished fantasy so that it may be expressed and learned from is an act of > great compassion. > Ask anyone at the "Make a
Wish" foundation for sick children.. [I disagree heartily...see below]
Lobster replies: >>> I do not wish to equate you with sick children. If you think it is an
act of compassion to allow adults their fantasies - fine. If people truly wish to travel the path of truth they are going to have to give up
fantasy.>>>
Here I have to concur with Lobster. I think this is a real point here Angelique that I have wanted to say to
you for some time, but the opportunity to formulate it has not arisen until now. It isclear from your posts that you indulge people in their
fantasies, and you see that as "serving the Goddess". And I know you are helping those people at some level but I wonder if this view might give
you a different perspective on it. Are you in fact propagating their dependence upon you...and their dependence upon
delusions? Consider this: I consider my true friends those
who will call a "spade a spade" with regard to my delusions.. I WANT my friends to wake me up if I am sleeping, and they choose me because they
know I will wake them up if they are going around asleep. This is TRUE compassion, not indulging fantasies and delusions. Rajneesh (Osho) says
that if there are 10 seekers, at any given time one will be awake and can keep the others from falling asleep. That is how I classify my true
friends. Will they nudge me awake at critical times when I am wallowing in the mire of delusion? Will they honor the truth in me.. that I am at all
times the TRUTH and fully realized, or will they feed into my "stories" and idiot mind delusions about who I am? This is my "friend" test and if
they are the type who give me more stories about myself, then I drop them because they are not supporting me...their delusion is as great as mine!
My friend Denis had lived very cheaply in a 2 bedroom house for years that
he rented. Then one day he got notice that the house had to be knocked down to make a parking lot. He was stunned. He called everyone and was
telling his "story" of outrage and indignation and planning all kinds of revenge or obstruction tactics. Finally he called me.. and I said, "Oh
God is moving in your life. Something new must be coming. How exciting!" And he was stopped cold in his "story" and said, "You are the only person
who saw it this way, and this is more valuable to me than all the people who just listened and agreed with my feelings of injury." Denis is one of
the people who is in my circle of "wake-me-up-if-I-am-sleeping.. friends." The most recent case of this was my own daughter
(what blessing such a child can be) who just got plain mad with me over some of my "trips" and forced me to take a good look at myself. I found
out that I had an imbalance in my body that was flipping my mind... and I immediately dealt with this and got myself back on track. Had she not just
broken through my mind's power to create fantasies, who knows when I would have gotten this awareness? THIS is compassion.. True compassion.
If you ever wanted a case for a guru or teacher.. this is IT!
Angelique.. your devotion to "the way it is" honesty in the past and your clear wisdom on the list override these moments of "blipping". That's
why the list folks seemed so accepting of this episode... I think...they just figured you would get it right in time.. and you did!
In a way this was a form of compassion too...just holding the space for you to come back down to paradise on Earth with the rest of us... rather
than paradise in Vaikuntha (or wherever you believe the Source exists)...hanging out with the Heavies...! Ha ha... how inadequate our
language is... Your process is our process. Thanks for the ride.

This says to me that you are sitting in your solar plexus and not getting into the heart center. What are you doing in your meditation?
Tell me about your process. Gloria
Each meditation that brings you into the heart will carry you forward in your journey with greater understanding, awareness and strength to deal
with whatever lies ahead. This insight might also be showing you in this light you speak of, perhaps you have always been this way and now
you are just witnessing it. If so then it is a part of your awareness change

Dear Lobster
I also take the course of least resistance, just like the river flowing to the sea. To do otherwise would be unnatural. And I bet the bigger
lobsters wait for the food to stop before they try to eat it.
Many have chosen an 'easy' path but will soon find that their thirst for self satisfaction is unquenchable until they drink from the eternal
spring. All paths have lessons to be learned and none of them is without lessons. (Paraphrased from a crustacean friend of mine.)
So, let the feet wear at the earth of its choice. It all goes to the
same center.

Hi Angelique,
Thanks for your response to my response to your question.....also reading your "An
Apology..." post. Certainly you have earned our trust through the wisdom contained
in your postings, though we must all continue to make up our own minds through our
own experience as to the details. I find that your posts frequently contain food, that
if properly digested, can be a source of growth. This is also true of the list as a whole.
you wrote....
" out of the unity of all that is, I created a self that chooses experiences, and having chosen and seen them manifest, immerses in them
fully to discover what they are about, before returning to unity. This we do on a lifetime by lifetime level, or we can choose to access
different experience of being, in one lifetime.. the I Am statement of intent to create self."
This set the K flowing....linking into Tantric practices of generating
ourselves in a Deity body.......and the I Am statement (which i've run into in everything
from the Bible to Gurdjieff to various occult works) took on new meanings. As for
the worldwide K wave as the Second Coming.... back in the 80s (when i had done
sort of a re-exploration of Christianity) i came to believe that the Second
Coming of Christ was within us.....and that the "Body of Christ", the "True Church", would
be formed by a surge of enlightened people (not necessarily from Christian
traditions) all over the world.....and that this "True Church" would not be an organized
religion but the enlightened people themselves.
So consider this a note of appreciation and keep up the good work.

COMPASSION
More than two thousand years back 500 arhants collected and wrote
down Guatam Buddha "s teachings , which were written down on stone in Burma in Pali language. They give following figures for size of ego for
various realisations. 1..Viriyadhika Buddha..16 asankhayas and 100,000 kappas.
2..Saddhahika Buddha... 8 -do- and 100,000 kappas. 3..Pannadhika Buddha... 4 asankhayas and 100,000 kappas.
4..Pacceka Buddha...... 2 asankhayas and 100.000 kappas. 5..Agga savaka......... 1 -do- and -do- .
6..Maha savaka......... 100,000 kappas. 7. Arahants............100 - 1000 kappas.
Viriya means effort. Saddha is faith.
Panna is Wisdom Pacca is one who can not teach, as he just got there.
Agga savaka is chief disciple of living Buddha. Maha savaka is leading -do- .
Arahant is self realised due to compassion of living Buddha. When one is self-realised all his ego is transceded to higher plane
but because he is living a human life he will lose this self- realisation after some time. He collects further ego and that can
transced to higher plane till some critical quantity is achieved for further transceding and still higher self realisation.
While arhant (moksh) requires only 100 to 1000 kappas, one has
bypassed this path if one is following compassion. One kappa is equivalent to millions of kalapas (atoms) in the body. Initially one acquires kappa
or kalapas by taking birth again and again and living a life of service.
To reach arhant that is to acquire even 100 kappas it takes many many life times. and to reach buddhahood or bodhisatva (pacceka buddha) it
is two millions times more difficult.
So path of compassion is a long one , but one good thing is that one progresses exponentially and not linearily on this path.
So if one follows this path of compassion , he or she starts living a life which is comfortable and good and powerful. At every corner
he or she will meet with success.
This extract is from "voice of Silence" published by theosophists.
ARYA PATH On this path nought but the darkness meets the weary pligrim,
where torn by thorns the hands drip blood, the feet are cut by sharp, unyielding flints and Mara wields his strongest arms_ there lies a great
reward immediately beyond. Calm and unmoved the pilgrim glidth up the stream that to Nirvana
leads. He knows that the more his feet will bleed, the whiter will himself be washed.
Such is the Dhayana path.... Klesha and tanha is destroyed for ever after he crosses Arahanta path
Compassion ...law of laws on the further path carries him to Buddha of perfection.
Compassion must not be regarded in the same light as "God of Divine love" of the Theists. Compassion stands for abstract, impersonal law,
whose nature being absolute harmony, is thrown into confusion by discord, suffering and sin.
The above extract further indicates that this path of compassion becomes easy and without pain after one becomes arhant.
