With kundalini flow we look at life differently from most people. I've
recently been noticing from various sources a common theme: the quality
of life in the U.S.
A European friend commented that Americans are afraid of commitment. We
have lost so much in the pursuit of individual feedom. And yet he makes
his home in California because it gives him a level of openess that he
doesn't find in Europe.
Another friend, on his way through to his hacienda in Mexico, mentioned
that he has missed Mexican society- almost no one is excluded, you know
people for miles around and they know you.
Friends visiting from Denmark mentioned that the streets here seem so
empty, so few people strolling in the beautiful weather, and that until
they visited me they had been longing to sit in a garden. They were
surprised when a lunch visit turned into an overnight stay, because in
the three months they had been visiting the U.S. they had found
hospitality to be limited. They plan to move to Boston, though, for
education (Harvard) and spiritual opportunities which do not exist in
Denmark.
Another friend who was born in India said that his friendships here
were based on economics, mostly work-related. He loves that his
daughter will grow up in an environment with more equality, but misses
the sense of community he grew up with and worries about his daughter's
values towards money and society.
The newspaper has been filled with news of record profit-taking from
the stock market, the widening gap between rich and poor, and record
prices for new cars. This last is because many cars being sold are the
luxury vans and trucks which also use more fuel. A newspaper poll on
greed found that no one could define it, as it had never been fully
defined to them.
So, kundalini list, what are good values? What is a good lifestyle?
What is greed? The value of money?
Should we spend all that we earn because we worked hard for it? Work
hard to give our children priviledges such as private schools? Drop out
of the city race and high prices for rural life? Join a commune or
spiritual community? Where do such oddballs as us fit into a world where
good pecs, stock options and a well-cut suit define success for so many?
I know that we cannot reach a definite concensus on this, as we are
all individuals and this is after all, personal and opinion-based. But
among us we have tried many lifestyles. What works for you? Or doesn't?
I keep thinking that somewhere in this world there is a place where I
and other spiritual people can fit in, can be responsible and part of
the community and still an individual.
My personal experience hasn't been positive around finding a community
where spirituality is its' many forms is accepted.
I tried the "spiritual community" life, and I found that much of it was
economic poverty and incredible control issues from the people in power.
I tried rural life, and found that the lack of an economic base was such
a stress on resources that spiritual life was drowned in bills. And the
community was closed to newbies who didn't want to be volunteers at the
Baptist Church functions.
I'm currently living in Silicon Valley, where there are a tremendous
number of healers and spiritual teachers and resources. The downside is
that the success of electronics the industry is drowning us with
corporate types working through issues of dominance, power, and
self-interest who consume resources at an astounding rate. I love the
money I make here, but I am aghast at how fast housing and living costs
eat through it. There is increasingly less balance here. Has anyone of
you found a kinder, gentler place where children and the elderly are
cherished?

Morgana,

I so well understand your quest for a place.

Let me share a bit about my place with you. I think it must be a vortex
because so many like- minded people are moving here. "Here" is
Blairsville, Georgia. We're in the Blue Ridge mountains very near North
Carolina in what was once Cherokee territory. Although I'm from Florida, I
had an instant affinity for this land. As I'm part Cherokee, as well,
perhaps there was a bit of cell memory at work.

I live on a river that winds down the mountain, collecting springs and
tributaries at every bend. Deer run through the woods. Wild turkey gobble
and hummingbirds sip at our feeder and investigate everything red.
Raccoons dig for crawdads along the river bank. Now and then, on summer
weekends rafters float by.

Our house sits on a hill where the river once ran eons ago. Smooth washed
river stones underly the foundation and when you hold them in your hands
you can sense the animals that once walked the land. I painted runes on
one of them and invited it into my house.

It's a beautiful place I live in and I am so grateful for the opportunity
to be here. There are many metaphysical groups and classes here, many
opportunities to meet new compatible friends. Many artists and crafts
people are here, many healers. I always ask people how they came to move
here. Almost invariably it is because of odd synchronicities.

Work opportunities? Not many. It all depends on what you do. But if you
feel the need to move to a certain place, it's as if the universe provides
and things begin to open up.

Connecticut is pretty close minded I find. I'm definitely a weirdo

here.

> So, kundalini list, what are good values? What is a good lifestyle?

Money is a pseudo reality. The fact that I am born into a situation
where it is necessary, and the means required to obtain it for the
most part, inhibit well-being creates in me a resentful attitude.
We have boxed ourselves in and made a situation where the support
for material things has become more important then ourselves.
Because of this machine we have sacrificed the family unit. Why
have children if the parents will be away most of the time working?
What's the point of a family here?

> But
> among us we have tried many lifestyles.

I've found a way to work for myself, from
my home and rake in money. I don't enjoy what I do. It is
extraordinarily stressful. At least I get paid what I'm worth
and don't have to answer to someone whom is disrespectful.
My goal is to earn enough so I can have free time. That is what
I value. Time to meditate. Free from accumulating money. Time to
ride a bike. Time to go for walks. Live a contemplative life. A
simple life. This is my goal.

> I keep thinking that somewhere in this world there is a place where I

This is a transitory phase. The one's that look within are
pioneers. There will be a time for what you speak of. But not this
lifetime. We can however be a force that prepares for it. At
present,there
aren't enough meek to inherit the earth.

> There is increasingly less balance here. Has anyone of

No. There is a need to completely restructure the economic system
so that it serves us and not we it. Until then, we are it's slave.
Even the so called successful people are slaves. There're not happy.
They worship a gold cow. There's no peace in that. At least I know
the cow is a heretic. And if you really think about it, I don't
do something that I really love for 40+ hours a week, let alone
something that dampens my spirit.

Integration is the subject of this warm and clear presentation by
therapist Bragdon: how to incorporate transpersonal experience into a
 balanced and productive life. The challenge can be overwhelming;
experiences of awakening may disrupt our normal functioning in the
world, especially if a foundation or "container" of personal and social
stability is lacking. Using Wilber's prepersonal-egoic-transpersonal
developmental spectrum and Mindell's process-oriented psychotherapy,
Bragdon develops a model of spiritual evolution that recognizes the need
for both order and transcendence. Illustrated with intriguing case
histories, this talk offers helpful assistance on the difficult journey
toward a more conscious way of being that is both balanced and awake.

Bonnie Greenwell, Ph.D.
Energies Of Transformation : A guide to the Kundalini Process

Assessing and Integrating Kundalini Process: A Clinical Perspective
In this "pragmatic workshop", therapist Greenwell, author of Energies of
Transformation: A Guide to the Kundalini Process, offers suggestions on
how to identify the kundalini awakening experience and help people move
through its processes. Although no two experiences are alike, Greenwell
describes seven characteristics frequently present and suggests ways of
assisting in the often chaotic and lengthy process of moving through the
awakening. A clear and informative discussion.

   Kundalini: Chaos or Completion?
Therapist Greenwell offers an in-depth look at the kundalini experience,
noted by the ancients yet still little-understood today. Utilizing
research for her book The Energies of Transformation, as well as
personal experience, Greenwell describes some of the most common
characteristics of kundalini awakening and offers basic guidelines for
assisting the process in oneself and others. Spirituality is intimately
connected to bodily energies, says Greenwell, and in the proper context
these energies can lead to a lifetime of personal development.

Christina Grof
The Stormy Search for the Self
A good overview of the phenomenon of spiritual emergence: What is it?
What sort of events typically trigger it? How is it different from
mental illness? What are the best strategies for working with it?
Christina Grof shares her difficult experience and describes other case
histories to illustrate stages in the process of emergence to a higher
level of awareness. The often disturbing symptoms of spiritual emergence
are really a pathway to greater wholeness and authentic existence. This
new understanding welcomes emergence as guide and teacher and recognizes
it as a common experience, to be worked with as a path to greater
freedom and well-being when its emergent energies are allowed to lead
 the transformation.

Bonnie Lee Hood, Ph.D.
   Perils of the Path
Hood tells the story of her own cataclysmic spiritual awakening and
presents a model of the death and rebirth in spiritual emergency.
It can be terrifying when all familiar levels of experience are
broken through but if the process is allowed to unfold it can be
healing and transforming - moving the person to higher levels of
awareness and integration. Hood's careful study of spiritual
emergency discusses precipitating causes, stages of the process
and the recovery that can occur with complete surrender.

experiences and encounters with UFO's Prevatt outlines a vast
and mysterious field of profoundly transformative non-ordinary
experiences. Prevatt shares her own dramatic experiences and
encourages openness in the presence of these unfamiliar visitations

Claudio Naranjo, M.D.
The Kundalini Process and the Hero's Journey
The kundalini phenomenon is really inseparable from the process
of human development says psychiatrist Naranjo and he illustrates
his view through archetype and myth, the deep levels where
transformation takes place. Tales such as the Iliad and the Odyssey,
the legends of Osiris and the plumed serpent Quetzalcoatl speak of
voyage and return, descent to the depths and return with treasure.
Contact with this deep energy sets the stage for a new body and
consciousness, bringing darkness into light, freeing the dragon of our
being. A wide-ranging presentation blending myth with biology for a new

Max Schupbach, Ph.D.
   Cataclysmic Energy Behind Bodily Symptoms
A warm and witty presentation by Swiss psychologist Schupbach. Working
in the process-oriented therapy of Arnold Mindell, Schupbach stresses
the wisdom of bodily symptoms. Unpredictable as they may be, symptoms
are really a developmental process seeking expression. We should trust
the symptoms and in their own way they will lead us to heightened states
of being. Surrendering to the symptoms is the path to expanded identity,
beyond the limits of the rational mind. Schupbach's portrait of this
intelligent universal energy seeking expression is fascinating and
 compelling.

Stuart Sovatsky, Ph.D.
Energetic Transmutations in the Kundalini Process
In this thoughtful presentation Sovatsky, director of the Kundalini
Clinic, offers a tantric yoga for our time. Going deeply into emotion
permits reunion with the ground of our existence. Feeling is really the
power of reality emerging through us, whether in joy or pain. Faithfully
opening to our experience, it becomes universal energy, deepening our
being with its radiant truth. Sovatsky discusses yogic techniques of
chant and breathing, and powerfully demonstrates what a kundalini
 emergence is like.

How many Gods there are in this universe ? How many universes are there ?

In the path of finding knowledge, the way is to look at a particular phenomenon
and try and generalise and categorise it into a bigger scheme of things. Like
the
falling apple is one incidence of the universal phenomenon of gravity.

In a similar manner, if we begin to group everything into larger groups,
ultimately
we will come to living things, and non-living things and space. These three can
also now be grouped into one common Reality, that is Existence. This Existence
is Infinite and Omnipresent and cannot be denied. There can be only one such
Infinity in the Universe, because existence of two different infinities is
illogical.

This Infinite Omnipresent One is God, and that is one and only one. This
Infinite is
manifest within each of us as our pure consciousness. This consciousness that
you exist cannot be denied, but you know that you exist. This consciousness is
as fundamental as existence. You may be Jewish, or Christian, or Hindu or a
Buddhist, your consciousness of your own existence is Universal and Infinite.

So, time to awaken ourselves from our little limited view of ourselves as a
little
Jew of a little Christian or a small little tribal chief. We are the Infinite
and we are
the pure spirit. Christ touches everyone because everyone of us Exist.

>From London you travel Eastwards to go to France, and from Italy you travel
west. Directions entirely opposite.... so what ? You reach France anyway.

To reach the Infinite we may travel the Christian way, the Hindu way, the
Buddhist way, the Jewish way, .... so what ? You will reach the goal anyway.

Cheers and love to all
Ashanka
