I have a mystical verse myself. It is a song by the Indigo
Girls. It is off thier CD Strange Fire.
STRANGE FIRE
I come to you with strange fire,I make an offering of love.
The incense of my soul is burning, by the fire in my blood.
I come to you with a softer answer to the questions that lie
in your path.
I want to harbor you from the anger, find a refuge from the
wrath.
CHORUS: This is a message, a message of love. love that moves
from the inside out, love that never grows tired. I come to
you with strange fire.
Mercenaries of the shrine, who are you to speak for God? With
haughty eyes and lying tongues hands that shed innocent blood.
Who delivered you the power to interpet calvary? You gamble
away our freedom to gain your own athority.
When you learn to love yourself, you will dissolve all the
stones that are cast. You will learn to burn the icing sky
to melt the waxen mask. Yes, to have the gift of true release
this is a peace that will take you higher. I come to you with
my offering, I bring you strang fire.
Words by, Amy Ray 1987
They also have a old tune on it that had my energies rising
today. "Get Together" I do not know who sang it in the 60's or 70's
but I like the words and the meaning.
Come on people now, smile on your brother
everybody get together
gotta love one another right now.
I wish everyone could sing this and really do this.

Flute,
I am an Aries with Cancer rising and Moon in Pises. This
spring has been joyous. I am getting back to normal. Last Equinox
was like a horror movie. I meditated so well on the Spring Equinox.
and have been doing well. I feel for everyone who is suffering. Last
year was my worst. I usually feel the seasonal change. I was barely
affected this year. Hurray.

In light of recent events, Jon,
Drunvalo's advice, as you relate,
if sincere, is certainly open to misinterpretation,
don't you think? Building on your life and ideas,
refining them, becoming more sensitive to others,
seems to me is a 'higher guidance' if you need to
pin a name on it. Sorry it is not as exciting as
being invited to a spiritual happening, but as
you know, life is its own reward.
Thanks for your kind post.

Hi Jon,
I also meant to say before my finger hit the send button on the last post
that I visited your website and was very warmed by your experiences.
I myself found PYogananda among the first book I read when I began
my 'search' and although I remember little of what it said now
(that was 30 years ago!) his picture on the cover of that book
still speaks to me. Back then the SRF, of which I was a member,
was totally by donation and had a wonderful list of books to
order from. I wonder if they still have this prayer session once
a week wherein they will speak your name, along with those of
others who have requested it for special blessing. I am sure
I felt that effect from those kind souls back then. I understand
once a member, always a member. Maybe when I next go to
California, where I was born, I will poke around the place.
Thanks for bringing back those memories.
God Bless.

A person is regarded as a guru or spiritual guide because she
encourages or allows such a belief. If she has no teaching to impart
then this attention is undeserved. Because peoples vanity and self
esteem are involved they will continue acting the guru sometimes even
being aware of their deceit.
Blaming the 'disciples' or advice seekers is no excuse. It is easy to
dissuade people of a good opinion they may have of one.
There are sufficient teachers to do the job, there are not sufficient
pupils. The first job of a would be teacher is to become a true student.
The job of any guide is to develop capacity and direct one towards
progress whenever possible. Any other attitudes or opinions of the guide
are our own and do not correspond to the actual function.
We all have a need for attention. Much of the sadness in the world is
caused by people not obtaining a sufficient amount. If beliefs are
associated and dependent on a time when attention was the predominant
force than they may be useless.
The demand for regularity and system is a human tendency. This can be
fulfilled in other forms than ones spiritual studies.
We may think we need a teacher, teaching or to teach, we may just need
attention. We can learn so much from our surroundings and experience.
Even the need to be significantly useful is a need for attention.
Sometimes attention is a necessary thing. If we do not extend some
attention in the proper way we may be inefficient at a transaction. Much
obsessional behaviour can be seen as attention based.
The attention factor has to be satisfied. However it should not be out
of balance. We should become aware of this factor in our lives.
By pacifying this hunger we may be more objective in our interactions,
able to EXTEND THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE LEARNING CAPACITY. This would
enable us to examine the attraction of ideas, people and other foci of
interest not based on this attention principle.
Most Kind Regards
Lobster

hiya Akasha,
i learnt the hard way what worked and didn't work and how to avoid
compromising situations with members of the fairer sex....probably most
important of all, i had tons of great sex before i gave it up, so i knew
what i was letting go so there was no aspect of denial or repression.
had some dramatic falls from grace over several years, but just kept on
getting back on the horse of brahmacharya as had nowhere else to go, for
had exhausted all other possibilities for clearing some pretty heavy
karma. diet, sleeping, holistic forms of exercise and bodywork all
helped, but the core essence of brahmacharya with kundalini awakening is
undertanding the technical aspect - your subtle body needs that fuel
that is your sexual energy. buddha is androgynous, must also integrate
inner duality if want to become truly whole through Tantric inner sex.
Not easy, but worthy as a lifetime goal perhaps. Not looking for
converts, simply portraying celibacy in more positive light.
hope this is useful - regards yogi Tom

Ah, this helps. So kundalini is not itself sexual in any way, it simply
uses your sexual energy? I believe this is what Gopi Krishna was saying
as well in his autobiography, though indirectly.

Hi k-ites,
The Heaven's-Gate/Hale-Bopp suicides sure point up how ones beliefs can
be affected by one person to the point of the ultimate incongruity.
Nothing new though, and not only confined to religious philosopies.
Hegasias of Cyrene concluded that life has in it more pain than
pleasure, more grief than joy, and the the only logical outcome of a
naturalistic philosophy is suicide. His arguments were so eloquently put
that a wave of suicides arose in Alexandria, Egypt and Ptolemy II had
him banished.

well, hopefully no one will be as stupid, unlucky and foolhardy as i
was, but i'd rather be safe than sorry. i suppose what i'm talking about
is the way in which once the shakti enters the realms of the throat
chakra and beyond - into the head chakras, assuming this is how your
experience is unfolding, well, on the one hand "common sense" can become
pretty redundant in the face of the transcendental understanding that
can rapidly unfold depending on the whims of the shakti and,
furthermore, even mundane understanding of things like love and
compassion and even one's ideas of what constitutes people can rapidly
dissolve for a while until one becomes reacquainted with a new world of
sorts and relearns the governing spirtual principles of life and death.
By now one may have a new take on the past and see apparently normal and
pure activities have a whole new meaning and significance - could be
good, but may be bad - and there is much written in Tantra on "the
causes of regret" which can arise when one realises too late that one
has been irresponsible and ignorant in one's use of this sacred energy.
thus, there is an esoteric understanding needed, which may need a lot of
faith at fiurt to be in harmony with, until one is able, much later, to
understand the spiritual nature of the universe and to see why systems
of spiritual discipine and yoga for instance have been developed in such
depth over the centuries. all i'm really saying in practical terms is,
enjoy the experience, but remeber that this is high stakes yoga so be
very careful before sticking your hand into what could be a very intense
fire - and not necessarily a nice fire at that. "i'd hate to see a
friend go down in flames without a song" as Janis Ian sings. maybe just
warm your hands gradually until better acquainted with the laws of
thermodynamics ? any help here ? thought this would be interesting to
tohers too so posted it on list. regards Yogi Tom

Thanks, Dan for the story of Hegasias of Cyrene,
here is my own $0.02:
I think this sort of thing is going to happen more as
population pressure rises and millenial expectations rise and
contempt for humanity rises, as people look at their fellow
humans as a superfluous crowd, polluting the earth.
This points up the dire need to better understand the spiritual
transformation process in the West. Since people like Koresh
and Applewhite seem to have had genuine spiritual openings, but get
stuck in the first phase, believing all the visions and auditions
that they experience are the literal truth, rather than
'just a phase' of spiritual adolescensce. And the charisma and
kundalini that accompanies their experience drags many seekers along
with them.
And who can blame them, when you see the kind of blather that
the news media offer up as 'cult analysis' without any acknowledgment
at all of the possibility of something genuine at the core.
As long as public discourse is going to reject the possibility
and the value of spiritual transformation, we are going to
see more Applewhites and Koreshes lead their flock into the flames.
Funny that this has been more of a temptation in the Christian
traditions with their afterworldly expectations, whereas the Buddhists
are trying _not_ to be reborn. In Buddhism, suicide is not just
wrong, it is FUTILE! The horror! The horror!
Maybe the only valid suicide is the yogic form, such as done by
the yogi who befriended Alexander the Great, who decided one day it
was time to die, and sat in meditation and died. In order to
do this, one must have cut the cord of attachment to life, and
recognized the voluntary nature of existence.
My $0.02

believe those who speak to you of superterrestrial hopes!

Eventually, the rescue helicopter were able to hover above him and
drop a rescue line, with which they gradually hauled him back to
safety. As soon as Larry hit the ground, he was arrested but
as he was led away in handcuffs, a television reported called out,
"Sir, why'd you do it?"
Larry stopped, eyed the man, then replied nonchalantly,
"A man can't just sit around?"

little did I know, in citing Saint Larry Walters as worthy of
emulation as the antidote to yearning for the imaginary
alien Hale-Bopp messiah, that he himself was a suicide.
I just did a web search and found out.
Bless you, Larry.

LONG BEACH, Calif, July 2 (AP) A truck driver with 45 weather balloons
rigged to a lawn chair took a 45-minute ride aloft to 16,000 feet
today before he got cold, shot some balloons out and crashed into a
power line, the police said.

Larry Walters, who achieved dubious fame in 1982 when he piloted a lawn
chair attached to helium balloons 16,000 feet above Long Beach,
has committed suicide at the age of 44.
In recent years, Walters hiked the San Gabriel Mountains and did
volunteer work for the U.S. Forest Service.
"I love the peace and quiet," he told The Times in 1988. "Nature and I
get along real well."

The Rudrayamala is used as a source by many other agamas
but the original appears to be lost. This analysis is of a tantra
given the same name but almost certainly, from internal
evidence, not the original text. Yet although,as with many
other tantrik texts, its provenance is unknown, it nevertheless
contains a great deal of interesting information and focuses in
great detail on the identity of the goddess with Kundalini.
Published in a Sanskrit edition by the Vacasampati Press,
Calcutta, this work is divided into 66 chapters (patala) of
different lengths and written in a simple manner.
In verse 108, the tantra begins a remarkable story. It speaks of
Vashishta, describing him as being engaged for a long period
of time in pursuing sadhana, restraining himself and practising
austerities (tapasa). Despite 1,000 years of this, he had not
achieved his goal. He had a vision of Sarasvati in which he was
told to go to the land of Buddha (buddhadesha), to Mahachina,
a non-vedik place, where he would achieve what he wanted.
Going to the region of the Brahmaputra, he discovered hosts of
men and women apparently engaged in non-Vedik practises,
swilling wine, eating flesh and engaging in sexual intercourse.
All were naked, their eyes reddened with liquor. Yet all were
enlightened. Going to Buddha, Vashishta asked how this could
be. Buddha is made to reply: "Vashishta, listen! I will speak of
the highest path of Kula by knowing which a man takes the
form of Rudra immediately!" He then speaks of the practice of
Mahachinachara. By this method, all the Hindu gods became
enlightened. More details of the Mahachinachara come in the
Brihadnila Tantra (chapter seven):-
"Bathing and so forth is done mentally, purifying celestial gaze
is done mentally, so too is clothing and recitation of mantra.
Resolution (samkalpa) and so forth and puja are also done
mentally. All times are good, there is no time that is not good at
all. There is no difference between day and night, nor of
twilights and great nights. One should do everything mentally,
including clothes, seat, place, temple, body, wine. One should
never do purifying here and act mentally, free of distinctions.
There is no need here for purashcharana (prior actions), nor
for considering faults of mantras and so forth. The mantrin who
meditates thus obtains the fruit of all that is desired. [VII,
103-107] The Mahachinakrama, it emerges, is sexual
intercourse with an initiated Shakti.
