1. BACKWARD IN TIME CAUSALITY:

For those who want to go into greater depth on this, the work of John
Cramer is largely behind Gribbin's book. He professionally takes his
work fairly conservatively, but grafted onto different cosmological
assumptions, it leads into some particularily spectacular directions.

Click on the section entitled: Theoretical Physicist for his work on the
quantum transactional interpretation. The cornerstone of his work is that
orthodox quantum mechanics can be completely reinterpreted in terms of
deterministic standing-waves in relativistic four-space without at all
changing the mathematics used within the theory. It has some mathematically
dense sections, but overall it's not too bad. His work cashes in all the
mysteries, paradoxes, and riddles found in popular quantum mechanical
discussion for the simpler, but far more profound, paradox of temporally
bidirectional causality.
The core of this reinterpretation rests on the fact that all relativistically
correct formulations of QM will require second order differential equations
with respect to time, and hence (by basic mathematical principles) will gen-
erate negative-energy solutions that propagate backward through time (in
addition the the usual positive-energy solutions that propagate backward
through time). This leads to two significant results:
a. Since is 50% of all microcausality propagates backward through time,
our ordinary understanding of causality is shown to be inadequate.
b. Since we have no reason (mathematically) to consider this system to be
anything other than fully deterministic, it's only a matter of time before
the 70 years of quantum mysticism that has been built upon the Copenhagen
interpretation goes down the drain.
This doesn't stop matter and spirit form being brought together in a deeply
meaningful way, it only means that it won't happen the way we've expected.
Beyond this, the literature about backward in time causality is quite poor.
Paul Davies, Huw Price, and a few others have books about time in general
which touch upon it, Penrose mentions it offhand in 'The Emperor's New Mind',
Wolf mentions it in 'Parallel Universes', and Talbot probably mentions
it in his awesome book 'The Holographic Universe'.
In any case, I wouldn't recommend that anyone think about it as simply twice
"linear" time. Frankly, bidirectional causality (unless absolutely deter-
ministic) pushes the concept of a consistent reality right to the edge of
absurdity. I don't feel that it goes over the edge to negate the idea of a
consistent reality, but poetically speaking, I would expect the consistency
to be along the lines of an "exploding fractal" (which, as it turns out, is a
somewhat common feature in a number of types of altered state experiences).
2. MISCELLANEOUS:
Dr. Cramer also has an extensive body of speculative work in a number of
areas that he has built up as a long standing columnist for the the _Analog_
magazine of science fiction. The columns are not science-fiction so much
as a review of speculative areas of physics which may in the future lead
toward things which are considered science-fiction today. This work can be
