Thanks for opening this thread.

Buddhists believe nearly all forms of mental illness come from the mind
alone. Note, for this I don't consider Alzheimer's or memory loss a mental
disorder.

It is my belief a combination of helplessness and anger coupled with
separation with self that turns one into a place where in contrast to the
majority, they perhaps act irrationally. A place difficult to pull oneself
up from and feeling of no way out.

How I know? Well every so often I come round with a cycle of deep
helplessness and feeling the stranger in the world. This time has been the
worst yet. Surrendering to this, I finally came to see a seed within.

The seed, in the form of a mentally ill patient of a local mental hospital
(yes I used to live near one) when I was 8 or 9 years old. Not realising
until quite recently how susceptible I have been to others karma and taking
on their junk as a means of self defence I have carried the weight of a
mentally ill patient.

It may be irony that later in my life I found myself working in a mental
hospital although nothing to do with the people. But it did leave me exposed
to them. I have noticed there is a separation from love in some of these
people and a wounded victim.

Returning to the Buddhist view it is apparently true that compassion alone
and encouraging a person to act irrationally (if that's why they need to do)
in a safe space can help them through their grief or pain.

I suspect that any kundalinite who is well grounded and in a state of
surrender could do more for these people than most drug or psychiatric
process. My limited view - psychiatrists work through the mind in attempt to
resolve the mind. The success is as much geared to the level of reason and
ability of the doctor(s) as that of the patient.

Just my thoughts.

Well the spiritual I suspect may mean different things to different people.
For me it has been all of; the movement of energy (whether it be chi, prana
or shakti), alignment with truth, the clearing of blockages, perceiving
without mind, giving oneself to a greater power. All at different times.

Yep. Quite often this is what happens. Doctors focus on the symptom and not
the cause. Not always can the cause be known from a medical standpoint.

Yeah, not everyone is ready for the 'unknown'. Higher guidance sometimes
gives insight to their cause and course in life.

Suffering has its benefits. It can lift the spirits to lead to triumph. Last
weekend I ran a mini marathon to support cancer research. This came from a
person named Terry Fox who started a cause from his own experience with
cancer. He has already died but his legend remains.

There is a saying something like a little truth can be a dangerous thing. I
have no doubt it can unsettle a person if it is something basic enough to
their belief of the way the world works.

The truth to me is that there is no truth. If you disagree then I'd be
interested to hear what is true and not belief. Awakening sometimes feels
like having one's fabricated world wrecked enough times until there is no
longer yearning or expectation. Until it is experienced without desire or
resistance, in the now.
