I am by no means an expert on food, but I was advised to take food that
produce less mucus when I am experiencing an excess of it in my system. =) I
am taking on a fruit fast/diet and taking out dairy products for a while to
help get back in balance.

As far as cleaning inner organs, the liver included, the practice of
Shankhaprakshalana (I know, completely crazy name) is supposed to be good.
Shankhaprakshalana is meant to clean and purify the digestive system and
works as follows: You drink warm salt water and combine it with a certain
set of Asanas (postures) that open up the different parts of your digestive
system, allowing the water to pass through.. By using saline water, the
water will not just pass out through the kidneys and into the urine, but
will actually clean out your digestive system. The practice is very precise
and you would need to find a guru or hatha yoga teacher who knows the
practice to do it. I have been fortunate enough to learn it, and learn how
to guide others through it as well.. So if you want to take this on you need
to look for a teacher in your area or an ashram. But believe me it can be
worth it. The few weeks following the practice a special diet is taken to
give the intestines back their grease lining which is partly lost when it's
being washed out. Also, Kunjal kriya (vomiting salt water) and Jala neti
(nasal cleaning) is also performed in conjunction with the practice.. They
are good practices as well and can be done independantly.
There's also a short version, called Laghoo Shankhaprakshalana which can be
done more often, and with easier instructions.. I can explain that practice,
but it's always good to have consulted your teacher and/or doctor before
doing that practice too, since there may be contra indications.. I can get a
more detailed description of Laghoo Shankhaprakshalana if anyone is
interested, it's a very simple practice and can do a lot of good, provided
it's performed under the right conditions and properly. =)

With love
Gustaf
