This would also be the condition of a person continuously high on
morphine or heroin

This could also be the condition of a person high on psilocybin or
peyote or a number of other entheogens

Hmmm. I suppose so. Yet these chants are so often followed by something
like "Kill Moslems". Temporary ecstatic emotions? The raiders fans
sometimes tend to be EXCEPTIONALLY hostile. Actually, so do the
others... Nope, probably not enlightened. Er, to whom did that question
arise?

Agreed. No disrespect to you, Jeff- but why the focus on ecstasy? Wasn't
the question about enlightenment? Do you consider them to be the same?

Isn't enlightenment to fully realize oneself as a spiritual being, in a
fully conscious way(as opposed to intellectually); to be fully conscious
of one's non-duality, to recognize oneself as not being separate from
God, part of the universal consciousness of the One Thingamajig?

I'm able to achieve a kind of ecstasy by spinning my chakras up, but I'm
still working on enlightenment.(I know, stop working) I guess I consider
ecstasy a component of enlightenment- Sat Chit Ananda.

Coincidentally, here in Seattle, a guy named Jeff has announced himself
as the Messiah AND the Maitraya. Not a joke. Heh. Full page ads in the
weekly. I went and met him. Cool guy. He runs a local organic bakery,
and writes stuff like this:

http://www.parallel-youniversity.com/dboard2/messages/140.html

(this was actually published before he announced his Messiahtrayahood)
this may seem wack, at first glance... Almost too much to believe,
perhaps. I wish I could disprove it, but I think he's come pretty close
to nailing the actual nature of our predicament. I haven't reached a
conclusion on the Messiah part. I'll let you know if he starts walking
on water... I'm thinking of volunteering to help construct the godess
temple he's building in the former Red Hook Brewery in the Freemont
district.
