I would suggest finding some of Milton Erickson's (sp?) books. He was
said to have become an acute observer of subconscious human interaction
by having been paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair a good part of his
life--learning some pretty unfair ways to sneak into a person's habitual
consciousness & totally derail it--but using this power (so far as I can
tell) to give his patients more freedom rather than less.
