Is it not also so, that at least up to a certain stage in one's development,
the desire to grow beyond all the old limitations, patterns and habits plays
and important role? Is it not much harder to expand and raise one's energy
if one only wants to have one's house, car, dog and career, and absolutely
nothing else? From personal experience, I've always had an incredibly
strong drive to learn what is on the other side, to live beyond the
boundaries and how I am "supposed" to live..

Eventually, that may too be given up, it probably has, or will automatically
be given up.

Another thing that could be important too is how willing one is to put
oneself into the arms of a higher being/power/deity/reality.. Self-surrender
is very important for K, so how could anything happen if one does not
believe that there's anything to surrender to?

The traumas, crises and other major events that can trigger K awakenings
along with other things, I don't think it is the crisis itself that brings
about K... Why should it? There are millions of people that go through
crises, but no K awakening. I think it's the resolve that takes place on a
deeper level because of the crises.. "There has to be more to it than
this.." "Ok.. this is enough, I can't live like this any longer!" ... "Now,
it is time, to leave all this crap behind and move on!" It may not always
be on a conscious level, and it doesn't really have to be.. It's what
happens deep inside that matters.. Once more, I am just speaking from
personal experience here, from things that happened to me.. But anything
else, would just be ramblings of theory anyhow.

Om namah shivaya!
Gustaf
