Dear David,

Well, here you seem to presume that gratitude needs an object! :)) And I
agree that generally that seems to be the case. But in my gratitude there is no
object. I'm not grateful for anything in particular, although there are many
things to be grateful for (and not to be grateful for.) It is simply a
sensation that I seem able to call up with the simple conceptual thought of
"gratitude."
I was going to say that in a sense I *become* gratitude, but I find that
isn't exactly the case--for when I do that, I seem to end up in a no-sensation
place--neither pleasant nor unpleasant.

It's true that in either case it does seem to take an effort of will--but
then as you suggest, doing nothing is not always easy either. But one thing is
sure--that is that change is inevitable --so simply waiting it out may be the
simplest option, knowing things must get better since they can't get much
worse.

Otherwise, I hope you are upping your intake of the B complex vitamins and
getting some exercise! :)) We are living in an age when we can alter our
brain chemistry .

If I have any "object" for gratitude it is in thanks for my DNA. My older
sister suffers from depression, and I seem to have been spared. I do know that
the two most painful periods of my life consisted in the physical pain of
kidney stones, and when I went through a very short period of panic attacks. In
both cases I would not have rejected medication! :)
