Some further clarification, in brief.

Hinduism (Sanatan Dharma) is not a "religion" in the sense of other
religions. It is more than a religion in the sense that it is highly
integrated with daily life, rather than consisting of a commitment of a
few hours or minutes in a week. There are a wide variety of beliefs
even within "Hinduism". For example, there are various groups that
believe in no god, one god, many gods, respectively. But these are
recognised as merely different facets of the divine manifestation.
There is tolerance of different views. Consider how many different
religions have thrived in Mother India.

Hindus realise the unity of the various religions in terms of their
ultimate goal. Therefore the essence of other religions is easy to
comprehend and follow for Hindus. Religions usually differ in their
geographical peculiarities, which normally are independent of their
spiritual aspirations. Religions are also affected by politics, and
other non-spiritually related factors. The point at which other
religions claim exclusivity is probably the main point at which Hindus
would not agree since there are many valid paths.

There are many ordinary Indian people (as well as Masters) who respect,
appreciate, understand, and even follow other religions without
releasing their own. It is a bit like the dual/multiple nationality
status that is allowed by the governments of some countries. Why
shouldn't people follow more than one religion?

Vivekananda, and others, have explained the above in more detail.
