Well, poetic/metaphorical. The first time I saw it demonstrated, I was
disappointed that nobody actually flew... not that I really expected that
they would... but they sure could bounce! Like they had a spring up their
butt...
In English, "flying" is often used as a metaphorical term for blissful
or ecstatic experiences, as in "I was flying on mushrooms..." which gives
an interesting visual if read literally.
It was at a political rally for the Maharishi's "Natural Law
Party." Among the propaganda was some very interesting research on the
effects of the presence of awakened people on local crime rates, and the
biochemical and energy effects of meditation, etc.
The Maharishi's followers have done a tremendous amount of research on
Kundalini... although that exact word is never used. I think he avoids
using it because it is a scary word to some people, so many warnings...
The downside is that his teachings also offer very little in the way of
coping strategies for his devotees who do become awakened as a result of
bouncing around the meditation room on the coiled serpent spring in their
butts.
I am not a devotee, but some of my students are, and were drawn to me
for that reason.

Interesting, thank you. I can appreciate what you are saying, and I
honour your devotion to your teachers... but it also could be interpreted
that they were kind of lazy in choosing to deny the gifts in order to avoid
responsibility. Wealth can certainly be employed in service to humanity,
tho I agree it requires incredible discernment.
