Dear Michael et al.,

That's quite a blessing. I'm a bit jealous. :)
>What I see, generally, are twinkling lights and the occasional
>red-orange meteor-type thing.

I usually associate those with lack of oxygen -- but I'm not sure we're
talking about the same phenomenon. My meditation usually starts out with
these blue or violet pearls of light that appear in random locations, are
steady, but only last a few seconds; they don't twinkle.
>Lately, however, a new phenomena has begun to present itself. It began as a

I used to get that effect years ago before I started meditating. It freaked
me out at the time -- felt like I was being sucked into some other
dimension.
>Then, most recently, purple clouds. Really BRIGHT purple clouds, which

I definitely get that effect after about 20 minutes of meditation, although
the purple clouds just pulsate and the color alternates between purple and
green. They don't disappear into a pinpoint or feel like they're being
projected from my body.
>... They are preceeded by a sort of mesh screen.

I get that mesh too, but the mesh seems to be composed of some sort of alien
symbols or letters.
>My awareness passes through a screen each time, just before the purple
>cloud show begins.

Yup, I get the exact same sequence of mesh then purple clouds.
>What does it all mean?

Well, the short answer is that it just means you're making progress. The
risk is that you'll get too attracted by the visuals and get distracted from
making further progress. The Zen guys have a name for these hallucinations
and visions (forget what it's called), and say just ignore them and continue
with your practice.

There ya go.
