This is the reason why having a Guru can be extremely helpful. A Guru can
control the speed and intensity of the Kundalini. In this way, nothing
happens that one can't handle. When we try to forcibly awaken the Kundalini,
it can be really crazy! I know of cases where people had to be
institutionalized for a nervous breakdown! These are experiences to bring
us beyond the mind to the Self. That's why I love my Guru so much. Imagine
being totally blind, not knowing what it is to see, then, seconds later,
being out of the body looking down on the local sceenery! So, everything was
under control!
