Charles,

The Kundalini process is measured in years and/or lifetimes. The
Kundalini Shakti is an abstract energy. It's manifestations during any
particular Kundalini activity (or session) are as one or more symptoms,
which can vary according to the individual, time, place, etc.

Yoga (and similar systems) focus on cleansing and purification of the
physical body, energy body, mental body, bliss body, etc. In
particular, blockages can be cleared by Yoga so that the channels can
function correctly. This effectively prepares the individual for
various aspects of the Kundalini process.

It is not recommended to try to remove a specific blockage, except in
conjunction with a Master. This is because it may not be the root
cause, and hence may simply reappear later. In general, it is better to
view each individual as a whole and aim for slow and steady progress.
Therefore, it is recommended to have regular daily practice of Yoga (or
equivalent), correct diet, and meditation.

Some short term methods for guiding and controlling the Kundalini Shakti
in order to avoid uncomfortable sessions are as follows:

1. Use Mudras to channel the energy. The simplest and probably most
effective is Anjali Mudra: hands facing each other, with palms/fingers
touching, held vertically at the centre of the chest. Try other Mudras.
If Mudras happen automatically then maintain them as long as you like.

2. Use Power Breathing (Bhastrika Pranayama). There are several
variations. Any spontaneous power breathing should be allowed to be
expressed.

3. If an automatic Kriya is too strong for you to cope with, then
either try Hillary's suggestion of slowing it down manually, or
alternatively manually introduce another Kriya which will slightly
disperse the symptoms and make them manageable. For example, with an
automatic arm motion Kriya you could introduce a head motion or full
body motion. At some point, you may find that you just have to stand up
and lots of "dancing" type Kriyas will manifest themselves. Relax.
Enjoy the experience.

The secret keys for effective Kundalini development are patience and
gentleness.

Jack.

PS: I live in Woking which is quite close to London.
