If mind is looked at as just mind, not my mind or your mind, then the mind can be observed in its functioning. By taking a detached view of the mind we can begin to gain insights into what and who we believe we are. And, we can begin to see that functioning is present in all beings.

So, in a sense, mind, being present in all beings can be considered immense. The question then comes into play - who's mind is it? Is it 'my' mind? Do I own it? And, who am I that raises the question of mind?

My former chi-kung teacher refered to the mind as a tool. We use it to solve problems. These problems can range from the mundane to the profound. He said that when we ask the mind to solve a problem and we accept the answer then the mind can rest. But, when we do not accpet the answer (for whatever reason) then the mind will keep offering us answers, even to the point where the answers become ridiculous. As I remember he was responding to someone who asked - 'Why dont I get it?'

In the some of the Zen teachings ordinary mind is already Buddha mind.

Well, hope this helps.
