Jason is a moderator of the list. He, Hillary and Susan have been working very hard, combing through the list I gave them of nearly 400 people who posted to the yahoo list in 2002, and sending out invitations. They deserve cheers and hugs! :)

>I can accept that all things happen for a purpose in an intellectual manner but I find it difficult because I am unsure what that purpose is. However, I am going to take your suggestion to heart about this time being a gift and try to use it well.

I have always been of the opinion that Kundalites ideally need to be self-employed. I know some folks prefer the security of a job that has UI and health benefits, but the flexibility of self-employment means being able to use your time "as Goddess Wills" instead of as Boss wants. When the K-fire is turning your brain to mush you can take time off to hug trees, and when the energy is quieter you can work long days and set aside a mushy brain rain day fund.

That is what I do! Some days/weeks/months I just do not feel clear or motivated enough to deal with sessions, so I do art and update websites instead. Hug trees, go canoeing. Other weeks have me doing a few sessions a day and working on self-promotion. It all balances out, Goddess has it handled. I don't make a lot of money, but the bills always get paid, somehow, and I am rich in being able to do exactly as I please, most of the time. That, is an incredible luxury. It helps, to have a safety net of my engineer slave-hubby to back things up, but I was self employed and living the same way, long before we met.

Use the down-time to get very creative about looking for ways to follow your bliss. "Do what you love, the money will follow."

Defining what your bliss is, can be half the battle. I recommend an excellent book called "Wishcraft" by Barbara Sher <www.barbarasher.com> which has some cool exercises in it, to get to know yourself better, your hidden talents and interests. Barbara's website also has some great bulletin board focus groups to help you make connections, identify talents, etc. She has written several books, one is called "Life begins at 40". She is a fabulous motivational speaker on the topic of how to make your life follow your dreams.

>I also take heart at the fact that so many here are facing similar difficulties. Not that I'm glad so many of us are unemployed but that at least we are facing it together and can gain support from each other. So thank you all for your posts and please continue. I take heart hearing about everyone's struggles and achievements.

Well, there is apparently a downturn in the economy, but that really just means that some businesses will be doing better than others, as always. Secondhand stores, pawnshops and such, for example do better, in an economic crisis than Mercedes dealerships and travel agencies.

I think it is really cool, when I see people being inventive in finding self-employment. For example, there is a total obsessive organizer woman I hire periodically for $30./hr to organize things for me. ADD brained me makes clutter daily and gets overwhelmed by it, so to have her come in for a few hours to clear horizontal surfaces, find places for things and sort boxes of assorted papers for filing, is money well spent, because after her visits my overall productivity multiplies. When my desk is clear, my brain gets clearer too. She is putting herself through university, doing this.

I remember reading about a handicapped woman who was a "professional listener." Not a therapist, she just charged an hourly rate ($15.?) to listen to people, like a bartender does. She had a room in her house set aside to see clients and a big dog in case anyone misinterpreted what she was offering. So many lonely people were glad to pay her, to just listen to them talk about themselves and their lives. Let people talk long enough to a friendly ear, they will usually sort out their own problems.

I have had several odd self employment outlets. I remember, back around 1989, a friend and I put up several photocopied adverts in grocery stores and markets, advertising ourselves as "Two grrls with rakes". We had a car, some garden tools and ourselves, and we got a lot of calls from retirees and busy single moms who needed light yard work, painting, etc. done. We charged $10./hr each plus whatever the materials we used cost, and made enough to pay the bills, that summer. It was fun! :)

Things will work out... you'll see! :)

      Blessings...
