A strange but true story. In the early 1980s I lived in Palo Alto,
CA. One year in particular, the El Nino weather pattern had the
region in it's grip for weeks on end - nearly 2 months worth of wet,
drizzly, damp, grey, gloomy weather, and by week 4 it seemed as
though the entire population of Palo Alto was clinically depressed (I
kid you not). Eventually, a strong weather front moved through,
shoving El Nino aside, bringing with it tremendous thunderstorms,
microbursts, and lateral winds that snapped utility poles, downing
powerlines, and shearing off many of the gorgeous eucalyptus trees
that had lined the median of El Camino Real, the main road. We were
collectively saddened by the loss of those trees. I remember sitting
in the car at a non-functioning traffic signal, trying to negotiate
the anarchy of the signal-less roadways when the eucalyptus aroma
wafted into the car and caressed me - that's what it felt like -
wispy hands of eucalyptus essence stroking my cheeks and insinuating
themselves into my pores and nose and mouth and lungs, invading more
and more with each inhalation. The air also seemed ripe with negative
ions (from the storm), and the oxygen felt different, more charged or
something. All-in-all, it was quite the heady mix; perhaps you could
take a moment and visualize the aroma and sensations. There were lots
of cars there in traffic, and people walking inspecting the fallen
trees. As I said earlier, there was an incredible sadness over the
loss of so many trees, but looking around at the faces and maybe
auras in the crowd, it seemed apparent the eucalyptus aromatherapy
that day was a group-event. Not sure if a collective elevation is
possible, but I feel as though I witnessed and participated in one
that day.

Love,

PS - Thank you for posting what you did, because of the useful
information included, and also because of the energizing and tingly
memory it elicited in me.
