Diwali lasts 5 days....Lakshmi is welcomed on the third day (new moon night)
when people light their homes and put rangoli patterns on their doors...

I had fun on Saturday night haring round Wembley, North London with a film
crew, covering Diwali celebrations with the big Asian community there, plus
scattering of Bollywood stars.... A great new experience, though I was
staggering with the weight of plastic bags full of gifts people insisted on
giving us - boxes of Indian sweets, fruit from the Hare Krishna temple...
plus I was soaked to the skin in the pouring rain for 6 hours...
