Holly,

Life is full of pain sometimes isn't it? Three things about your
post caught my eye and prompted me to respond.

The kitties - Cats and other pets often seem to mirror our own
experiences. I too brought a homeless puppy home. It gave my older
dog and me a type of mange which is also known as dog scabies.

As I was going through the onset of my very painful Kundalini
symptoms my sweet older dog lost all her hair and her legs began to
tremble violently. I was tormented with unbearable itching and big
red welts on my breasts. $300 vet bills and unbelievable amounts of
laundry later we have finally all recovered. Aaaaargh

No one should have to put all their animals down because of ringworm.
Please look for the book "Dr.Pitcairne's complete guide to Natural
Health for Dogs and Cats." He has a whole section on what to do for
Ringworm. Many of the treatments are simple. If I were you I would
get some Echinacae/Goldenseal tincture in glycerite and apply it to
the sores on mama kitty. It is OK if she licks it off. It is so
bitter that they usually don't lick it for long and if she does
ingest it then it will help her heal even more.

Try to isolate her and the babies in a room so that whatever it is is
not passed on to the other human and animal members of your family.
Always wash your hands in very hot water after touching her or her
babies.

The 2nd part of your post which I felt I could say something too is
the question about detachment. I don't think complete detachment
from those we love is needed or desired. Instead I do my best to
detach from my desire to control what is going on and try to
concentrate on my ability to serve them with love and compassion.

Last but not least, when I have some bad habit (like face picking) I
use it to remember to pray. Whenever I catch myself in the act,
instead of berating myself (which only makes it worse) I pray for
world peace. Gradually my compulsion turns from self-mutilation to
connection with the divine and then the self-destructive behavior
eventually ceases altogether.

Breathe!
Rachel
