Hello RK,

You are correct, Sikhism does not teach K Yoga, but Sikhs do. My introduction to K Yoga was from someone who "knew the Sikhs down the highway." When I made the call to the Yoga Center, it also became my introduction to Sikhs and then Sikhism. I learned that Yogi Bhajan came to the US forty years ago and established the teaching of K Yoga and also his following of teachers, not disciples, in order to spread the practice of K Yoga to anyone who may wish to practice it.

From my experience with K Yoga I know that the pranayam and certain kriyas are tremendously powerful if one is set on awakening the K energy. In fact, from my personal experience, K Yoga has been the power behind a few chakra "blow-outs"? It may be called "cleansing," however it involved my total being; I speak from personal experience. There are many days when I stay away from it because...yes, I am afraid of the power. This may not be experienced the same way if one is not in the process of K awakening.

Mantra is extremely important to K Yoga. I thought I wouldn't like it and even resisted for a bit, but now I enjoy and experience. I especially like the Triple Mantra and the mantras used for what is called "Breathwalk." Since I love to walk the particular meditations and mantras used with walking are extremely powerful and enjoyable.

Like Yogananda's Kriya Yoga, K Yoga has been adapted to fit into a Westerner's view and idea of life. K Yoga is life balancing, as is Kriya Yoga. To be very honest with you, I started with K Yoga because the center of the Sikh community is only twenty minutes away from my home. However, Ana Marie wrote last night that she practiced K Yoga after running in the rain -- in New York City. And as a matter of fact, two K Yoga instructors and their Center were named New Yorkers of the Week (last week? two weeks ago?) in NYC for giving free yoga and meditation classes through September 11th to any New Yorker who came to the Center.

K Yoga is definitely for the "Modern Wo/Man" as we all awaken to the Light.

Sat Nam and Love,

Hety Can you tell me a bit more about the K Yoga as taught by the Sikh Spiritual
Masters?
