Thankyou, Pet, for telling me of this. I admit I knew nothing about this
hoax until you informed me of it. I've been researching for years, and it is
a couple of yrs since I researched it myself, though I have read articles
since then. Sorry about that. Research into health issues is a heavy
workload, and nutrasweet is nowhere near my main issue, right now. I have
looked into the hoax, briefly (4-5 website articles). I take your point, but
I am nowhere near convinced it is o.k. I really believe it is not. That's
just my personal opinion, based on my own research. I realise there is a lot
of hysteria out there, and a huge amount of confusing and conflicting info.
A lot of people are scared and ill. I think many of today's problems are
caused by nutritional deficiencies and additives/toxins in our environment.
I won't get into the possible motives behind all this. I think the impaired
immune system reacts in similar but unpredictable ways under the various
stresses we suffer. Therefore it may be entirely likely that people would
have a variety of different symptoms that presented (ike fybromyalgia) as
these terrible illnesses. With the M.D.'s being of little help, people begin
to turn to alternative methods of healing, and research also. It is very
natural to blame substances that have been in your life and have a bad rep,
some of them with good reason. I think many of them play a role in health
problems, contributing to similar symptoms and illnesses. This includes
nutrasweet/aspartame, in my opinion. And as for credibility, medical
intervention is one of the leading causes of death in the US, and I suspect,
elsewhere also. All these studies. How credible can they be, when the whole
business of medicine and additives etc. is backed by huge pharmaceutical
co.'s and Monsanto's ilk, and huge numbers of people are sick and getting
sicker??

Now, like a demagogue, you appeal to people's emotions by invoking their
natural fear for the safety of their children, rather than present any
facts.

'Oh? I'll give you some personal facts then. Myself, my husband and my two
teens are very sick. We all have fybromyalgia and ME with countless nasty
symptoms. My husband has carpal tunnel syndrome. I have liver and kidney
involvement. I have been sick for 20 years with no break, and constant pain.
I have to see my children suffer every day. My son has not been able to
attend school properly for 3 years. I am very concerned for all children,
and very sad seeing mine always ill. I began my research many years ago in
an effort to find natural relief. I have found natural remedies that help
quite a lot with symptoms, and not many of them subject to the endless
double-blind studies carried out in the medical research 'industry'.
No doctor has been of the slightest help to us, so far.
I'm not appealing to anyone by using children to evoke fear. I'm telling it
like it is for me. If you have a problem with that, tough! I wouldn't give
my (or any) kids aspartame, ever. As they don't have it, it couldn't
possibly have caused any of their problems, and I won't give it a chance to
cause more.'

>As I said, it was a general commment, but if the shoe fits...
'But it doesn't. Because intuition has nothing to do with an issue like
this, does it? Your 'general comments' feel personal to me. Has this
something to do with the K-spirituality you mentioned in a previous post?
Because it all seems intellectual to me, and largely driven by the obvious
irritation you feel about conspiracy theorists, alternate research (i.e. not
backed by government/huge consortium interests)etc. This is your problem,
not mine.'

I am a type-1 diabetic. Luckily, I don't have much of a sweet

'I am sorry for your health problems. But as you read above I, and many
loved ones, have (or had) plenty of similar hurdles to leap. But should I
accuse you of attempting to appeal to peoples emotions by evoking their
natural sympathy, in a manner similar to yours, to me, above? Being sick
hardly gives you the right to deny me an opinion in such a virulent manner.

> > And who made you the authority on wether these additives are

I've used them and never had any adverse affects.

Perhaps you are lucky. Also, adverse effects are not always readily
apparent.

You appeal only to people fears and make irrepsonsible and unjustified
claims.

It is my belief that so does Monsanto, and many other big business interests
besides.
Don't get too heavy here. My belief is still very much that
nutrasweet/aspartame are extremely bad for the health. I'm sorry you see it
as a life-saver for some. I do know about the health problems you face, by
the way. I have close relatives who are diabetic. One unfortunately also had
prostate cancer, and was nursed at home til he passed, by all of us. You can
bet we did plenty of research, including into artificial sweeteners. Diet
was paramount at the time.
I'm entitled to my opinion. You can hardly label me as irresponsible for
saying I believe it is not safe to take. How could that harm anyone? The
stuff isn't a medicine with me advising people not to use it, it's just an
artificial sweetener! In what way is my opinion more irresponsible than
yours, when you say " and don't worry about aspartame"?

Furthermore, you don't even comment on the link
>to the studies I posted, and simply adopt a defensive posture. Did you
>even read the web page, or do you just read things that support your views?
> I read several anti-aspertame articles. They were all written by people

supporting evidence.

Sorry. I am busy, kids etc., and huge fatigue problems. But you are right,
it was an oversight. I wasn't expecting to be attacked for my opinion. I do,
indeed, research both sides of the fence. It wouldn't be research otherwise,
would it? I just hold the reverse opinion to you, that is all. It is my
understanding that each of us is responsible for their own research, and the
amount they wish to share about their personal opinions. Because that is
what they are, isn't it? Just personal opinions. We all have them, we all
are a collection of different beliefs. They are probably not even important,
because everyone's 'reality' is different. For instance, I don't believe the
end of the world is coming. Planet X? Nibiru? Who knows? I don't care, I am
content to allow othrs their opinion. I just cannot agree about aspartame,
and felt at the time compelled to write and say so. Here we go:
http://www.dorway.com/index.html
http://www.dorway.com/nohoax.txt
http://www.ethicalinvesting.com/monsanto/markle.shtml
http://www.change-links.org/crimie.htm
etc.
You speak of credentials? And people with 'good credentials' are also always
honest, never having ulterior motives? Have you looked around you lately?
Indeed I read the article. At the bottom it states "The work was supported
by a grant from the Nutrasweet Co." Very impartial! Your idea of dubious
credentials may well be different from mine.
This all seems off-topic anyway, and I certainly didn't mean to get involved
in these long-winded replies. I personally wish I hadn't mentioned the damn
stuff. I have to admit, my ego played a part in wishing to reply, I felt
personally attacked, and I'm a long way from being perfect. Let us agree to
disagree.
