I think anyone who has been around this scene enough to know a few 'spiritually active' people has tales of Kundalini activating people being packed up to the local psych ward by their husband or father, or (in one case I know) both.

A friend who had a 'intuitive counsellor' gig going for a few years, doing workshops on the side, told me of phoneing a psych ward to get one of his clients out. He essentially gave the doctor a reading over the phone down to details such as what doctor ate for breakfast that morning and 'sprung' the client.

Of course there has been studies where 'normal sane' people have been bogusly inserted into the mental health system intentionaly, then said people act normally, and still are thought to need meds etc. just becuase of the fact they were there, not to mention how long it took (if ever) for the staff esp the psychiatrist assigned to their case to release them.

After all, no patients no paychecks, but the model itself is broken.

If you read the DSM ...maybe wrong initials, I've been away from that game for soo long...the big book the APA etc. puts out every few years that catagorized all the many types of 'mental' illness you will see that what they think is 'crazy' changes with public sentiment and the results of the latest popular research, but basically if you can't support yourself and get along with 'normal' people well enough to 'pull your own weight' and do the tick-tock job routine, yup you should be able to find yourself in that Big Book somewheres!
