Sorry to hear about the virus.

For any and all those who want to avoid that kind of virus, stop using the
MS mail utility (Exchange or Outlook). MS seems to build their tools to
encourage viruses. The design is stupid beyond belief, not just my opinion,
read the trades, it is why MS is redesigning their tools. These problems
will endanger their business sales if they don't do something.

Here are 3 sure fire ways to make sure you don't get the email viurses that
run automatically and screw things up on your PC (unless you actually help
it along).

1) Toss MS mail utilities completely and go to Eudora, a better mail tool in
many ways. Remember a free utility that ruins your hard disk is NOT a
bargin, so part with a few bucks. Eudora is often available cheap on eBay.
It won't run viruses automatically when you open an email message.

2) Switch to the digest version of this list. We never get the attachments
so they can't run. For those who don't know we don't get pictures either so
know there is a large group of list members who won't see an attachment or
picture.

3) Use Hotmail, Yahoo, Netscape, or other web based mail system. Signing up
now you can still get a free account, though Hotmail makes it VERY not
obvious how to avoid the $20 a year fee, just look farther down the page,
you'll find the button. They scan all attachments and tell you if they are
infected. You have to download the attachments to run/view them but that is
part of the reason to use the service, to avoid the automatically running
virus.
