Dear Jaspal,

My k has been awakened for over 12 years. It awakened by it itself
and was moving along pretty slowly until I went and had shaktipat
with a western master in 1991. That started things on a rocket ride
which has been for the most part fun, blissful, and wonderful with
occassionaly pain and agony thrown in to keep things interesting.

The master who gave me shaktipat was not interested or attached to
the idea of being a guru so I pretty much raised my own self on the
path by listening to my heart voice and reading some books.

On May 5th of this month I went to receive Shaktipat from Shri Anandi
Ma. I wanted to see what the traditional way was all about.

Anandi is a traditional Indian Master but recognizes the western mind
is somewhat different in it's cultural context and so adjusts the
traditions to help the western seeker. Her and her husband are
humble, loving, and very knowledgeable about Shaktipat and the path
of Maha Kundalini Yoga which is a path of intense and lengthy
meditation practice which uses a lot of mantra chanting.

I received clear and implicit instructions and literature around
kundalini and shaktipat which I was already familiar with to a very
large degree. They take the responsibilities of guru to students
seriously and seem to have a strong support system built to assist
their students with any questions and problems the students might
have.

I would recommend her as a nice starting place but my own caveat is
to remember that you have your own inner Guru. It does take practice
to discern it's voice and an outer Guru will help you with this.

Shri Anandi Ma is not on a glamorous guru head trip and has very
sweet light energy. She radiates Shakti. I could feel it as I went
and sat in the room she was in.

Her website www.dyc.org with her schedule.

Another organization that has clean energy and clean intentions is
www.kriya.org They also travel to give Shaktipat. I met one of the
swamis... who is just lovely and filled with kundalini shakti last
week...Paramahamsa Prajñanananda.

So, in summary...one can make it and do well on the path of shaktipat
and k awakening by yourself but I do recognize the value of a
selfless and loving master to assist you along the way. It is up to
you how much of your self you want to give away to this person and
their organization as you grow and how much you want to take back
when you are done.
