There are hundreds of chakras. Western practitioners tend to only focus on
the seven major ones, but you are not making things up -- go to the
original source material and you will see that chakras closely resemble
"chi meridians" in that they're all over the place and there are tons of them.

Thank the Theosophists for that. They did wonderful good in this country
(the Theosophical Society was the primary force that brought the Eastern
teachers to Chicago at the turn of the 19th/20th century and started the
widespread U.S. interest in Eastern philosophy) but they also set a lot of
dogma in concrete and not all of it was even really Eastern dogma.

Not only are there more than seven chakras in the body, but the "rainbow
sequence" of colors that we use for our chakras is a Western invention. In
the Eastern source material, the colors of the seven major chakras are all
different from what you've probably been told they are. I don't necessarily
think that this is a bad thing since so many people are obviously having
results using the Western schema, but there's honestly no need to get
dogmatic about the Western schema (or the Eastern schema. My thought is
"what works, works.")

Not over this, no. Don't knock a great imagination, though. :-)
