It is interesting the discussion this thread has engendered and some interesting remarks and incidents I have received off line. I thank everyone for their contributions.

I pretty much had everything I wanted to create the lecture including some non threatening energy techniques based on body wisdom for the general public to use to comfort their children. I just wanted to throw it out to our online communities and see what came up.

I knew from the beginning of writing the lecture that children can't be comforted unless the parent is inherently calm. That was why I knew I had something to offer to the community....helping the parents to learn not to be afraid, to be at ease and to develop courage. When the parents could be at ease I knew the children would feel it because children are so often the barometer and reflection of the feelings for their parents.

But I work with people who are everyday people, they follow different spiritual paths if they follow anything at all. This is particular true if I do public speaking. Anybody will show up. People will come because they want to help their kids feel better. What I know is I have to show the parents how to feel better so their kids can feel better.

One of the things an adult learns when they grow up, if they learn this at all, is there is no security in our world. Discovering this either makes an adult stronger or fearful. Safety and security is not something that is external to ourselves. That may be one of those things that delineates a child from an adult.

There was an opportunity to explore safety and security issues on another list today where I did not post my request for input. One of the things I posted in response to that little thread was this quote from Helen Keller, the author who was born and lived her life blind and deaf.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Security is mostly a superstition.
It does not exist in nature,
nor do the children of men as a whole experience it.
Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run
than outright exposure.
Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.
To keep our faces toward change and
behave like free spirits
in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.
by Helen Keller
Let Us Have Faith (1940)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It is why, IMHO, that children depend upon adults for their safety until they come of age to understand this wisdom. It is my hope that parents can live it so their children will be grow up free from fear,

Susan

  Hello Susan,

  For me its not as much what the parents do to calm the fear of the children, then what he or she feels within when the children is full of fear.
