This is so helpful, Angelique. So many times I've wanted to know "where am
I," which, as you've pointed out, only perpetuates the "I." The other factor
that's confusing to the mind is that each opening becomes normalized quickly
and sort of holographically wipes out the memory of what went on before, so a
so-called blissful state can feel pleasantly ordinary.

To pull in another thread: for me at least, childhood pain generated the (at
the time) helpful defenses of analysis and becoming separate, ergo, the
degree in psychology! But ego-surrender requires renunciation of these
defenses which, to the child who was overwhelmed, is terrifying. There is a
point where the mind can no longer wrap itself around the experience and
trying to figure it all out is actually self-destructive (pun not intended!).
Trying to understand is a last-ditch attempt to avoid surrender. So lots of
times my mantra has become, don't think, don't think, don't think!
Love, Holly
