I had this happen. My inflammatory arthritis got very bad at one point-
I had a major block around my sacrum/1st vertebra-
and I adapted to the chronic pain with big endorphins and yoga.
Yoga poses are themselves fantastic for people who like to
trip on endorphins. Doing poses with arthritis is truly sublime.

I had no idea how much pain I was usually in
at that time in my life until one day I pushed
back from the computer and my foot slipped, flew up and
hit the edge of my deak. I ripped off half a toenail, but had the
sensory experience that someone had just poured some cool
water over my foot! My first thought, literally, was "Damn, there
go my summer pedicure plans". It did not occur to me to say
"ouch" because it just didn't hurt like that.

And I realized this was not "right"- I remembered
howling as a child over stubbed toes- and
I shook myself and started doing more to deal
with the arthritis/block- all of which brought me here.

:-)
